I can't emphasize enough that the most important thing journalists can do right now is publish exactly this kind of article

We wanted a swift, lean government to stop strangling innovation...we got chain-saw firings, total devastation of state capacity in a way most likely to strangle innovation…and the worst and dumbest people in the world gloating that they solved the ‘grift’ of sending lifesaving aid to dying babies

So they are obviously keeping a list of immigration lawyers and they accidentally sent this out no….yes?

The sarcasm is thick

A few thoughts about today's protests: 1) The April 5 Hands Off day of action clearly ranks as one of the very largest mobilizations in U.S. history, by two different measures: -- total national turnout (~ 3 million) -- number of local protests (~ 1400)

I guess there really is nothing new under the sun.

Donald Trump has committed the most profound, harmful and unnecessary economic error in the modern era. Almost everything he said—on history, economics and the technicalities of trade—was utterly deluded econ.st/3YbbFjq

Did you know?

People you know will die because of this. They are breaking things that we will never get back.

Make it stop!

“Trump is using Jews as a battering ram to attack institutions he disfavours, in this case higher education. He is deliberately and cynically exploiting antisemitism as part of a wider plan to undermine if not ultimately abolish the rule of law. This, of course, puts Jews in even more danger.”

Not very fun, but very important, reading... 🧪 www.nature.com/articles/d41...

The erosion of democracy is a serious threat. The United States is not immune. Autocratization in this country has to be faced urgently and strategically...Here, I provide an overview of lessons learned from other countries: www.foreignaffairs.com/guatemala/ho...

Pushback works, part gazillion: "Here are the facts: DOGE moved forward with plans to close multiple field offices. Then, without public notice or explanation, they reversed their plans. Now they are trying to pretend like they were never planning to close the offices." popular.info/p/how-the-so...

You have to see this. PoliticsGirl and her husband teamed up with the brilliant Timothy Snyder (author of On Tyranny) and the legendary John Lithgow to create something truly powerful. It’s important, it’s urgent—and it needs to be shared far and wide.

In case you weren’t already convinced of how utterly awful they are…

Well, they finally did it.

wow - this is big -

Take good care of your car. You don’t want to have to buy a new one anytime soon.

Trump and MAGA's absurd handling of Signalgate aptly demonstrates why authoritarian populism that shapes everything around the leader's infallibility often delivers bad outcomes. On the pod, @zackbeauchamp.bsky.social is brilliant on this idea. Don't miss this one: newrepublic.com/article/1932...

Sometimes you have to laugh or you’d cry.

Pete Buttigieg breaks down DEI for everyday folks… “The opposite of diversity is uniformity. The opposite of equity is inequity. The opposite of inclusion is exclusion.” @petebuttigieg.bsky.social Our problem: too many value uniformity over inclusion and they’re the ones running the government. 🧵

Nancy LeaMond is AARP’s chief advocacy and engagement officer. She's talking about Social Security ending applying for benefits by phone. I liked it! (Native video looks better than this narrowed YouTube version.)
