Check out Stephen's latest accomplishment! Super proud of him! πŸ§ͺβš’οΈ Excellent job!

The TS division has also arrived! Follow them at @ts.egu.eu !

Wohooo!

I just pasted this photo into a powerpoint, and the #AI-generated AIt Text is "A person drawing a fish on a rock". πŸ˜‚ Pretty accurate description! #geology

🚨 Hot off the press πŸͺ¨ βš’οΈ Where do you come from, where do you go 🎢 fluids that is… after an earthquake in the dry lower crust? We look into this and more using SEM-CL, EBSD, EMPA, STEM, and FTIR! Hit the link below πŸ‘‡ agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10....

Caution! Reacting when wet! πŸ§ͺβš’οΈ Plagioclase breakdown in action with plagioclase reacting to clinozoisite + kyanite + quartz + white mica. The classic reaction at high pressure conditions. I just got some TEM results from these beautiful samples, so stay tuned! #thinsectionthursday

🌍🌌 AGU is thrilled to join Bluesky! We’re here to share exciting discoveries, spotlight incredible scientists, and connect with YOU in this vibrant community. Follow along as we explore how Earth and space sciences make the world a better place. 🌟

πŸͺ¨βš’️ #thinsectionthursday of a recrystallized quenched frictional melt (pseudotachylyte) from Lofoten, Norway. Plagioclase survivor clast retains deformation twins, reaction between garnet-amphibole. Garnet cores are full of inclusions from rapid quenching growth, then slow growth to form facet GBπŸ§ͺ πŸ”¬

This is a map showing the orientation of diopside in a deformed symplectite. This used to be an omphacite, which tells us that the rock used to be at very high pressure (great depth). βš’οΈπŸ§ͺ If you want to read more about how such symplectites nucleate and deform: link.springer.com/article/10.1...

So strong and yet so weak: Look at this beautiful 'weak' shear zone in a 'strong' gabbro from western Norway. Can't wait to get back to the field in the summer! πŸ§ͺβš’οΈ

From dynamic ruptures to aseismic slip - our new EPSL paper explores how H2O+CO2 fluids affect microstructure, slip rates, and timing of deformation in crustal fault zones. Check it out! (OA) www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti... #Geology #FaultMechanics #Earthquakes #SlowSlip #CO2

You should not be allowed to review papers unless you've read this and signed a contract πŸ‘‡ I don't make the rules 😏 Yet 😈 www.dl.begellhouse.com/download/art...

Brittle? Ductile? Brittle-ductile? If you are interested in why rocks deform the way they do, consider submitting an abstract to our session at #EGU25! The deadline to apply for travel support is on December 2nd! meetingorganizer.copernicus.org/EGU25/sessio...

Ok, here we go! Metamorphic community starter pack! bsky.app/starter-pack... I have added some metamorphic folk, but the list is just at the beginning, so please contact me to be included ☺️ βš’οΈπŸ”¨πŸ§ͺ

Elsevier tonight has decided to ban authors from suggesting reviewers. I told them this is stupid. Yes, need to avoid conflicted reviewers, and editors should be cautious, but suggestions are helpful. When you send 20-30 invites to get 2 reviews, seeing names points you in the right direction.

The cat is (finally) out of the bag...my FIRST CHILDREN'S BOOK! is here! πŸ“šβœ¨ "How the Earth works" (DK Books) takes inquisitive 7-9 year olds on a journey of discovery into the inner workings of our planet, and is now available for pre-order! Links in my profile! #SciArt #geoscience #kidlit

Interested in 3D printing your own thin section boxes? I am providing the .STL files for a few different models, for free!!! Check out: matthewtarling.github.io/printing/

Are you interested in how deformation and metamorphism interact? Consider submitting an abstract to our session at #EGU25 βš’οΈπŸ§ͺ meetingorganizer.copernicus.org/EGU25/sessio... Deadline to apply for travel support is om the 2nd of december!

Bluesky tip for newbies: Bluesky has no real algorithm. Likes here do nothing but show the poster that you enjoyed their content. That kindness is always going to be appreciated by creators, but if you want to help to boost something here, you have to repost it so others see it. πŸ™‚

I usually prefer working with thinsections, but sometimes 3D samples are fun as well! Here some gypsum growing in black shale from Oslo. Field of view ca 10 Β΅m. #electronmicroscopy

I woke up to a bunch of new followers, so I should share some things that we do here at the Njord Centre, University of Oslo. Here is my JGR: Solid Earth paper on porosity in lower crustal faults and ductile shear zones using microCT, EBSD, SEM-CL. agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1...

It's already a few months old but I thought I'd post it here anyway. You want to know when seismicity in the Lofoten block (northern Norway) occurred? Check out this video of me talking about it πŸ˜…: www.mn.uio.no/njord/englis... πŸ§ͺβš’οΈπŸŽ¬

It might not be #thinsectionthursday, but my Saturday morning coffee has inspired me to post some microstructures from pseudotachylyte fault rocks from Lofoten, Norway.

Kvamshesten basin conglomerates sitting above the mylonites separated by a sharp brittle detachment. Spectacular outcrops! #folds #geology #mylonite @hugolantman.bsky.social @glgysteve.bsky.social

The most beautiful outcrop in the world! Beginning asymmetric boudinage and veins provide evidence of consistent kinematics during protracted deformation of the Nordfjord-Sogn detachment. #geology

Day 2 of the tectonics field tip took us through the basement of Baltica and to the Nordfjord-Sogn detachment! #geology @hugolantman.bsky.social @glgysteve.bsky.social

Day 1 of this years tectonics field trip: The pictures show flame structures in a turbidite sequence, providing nice way-up criteria, and axial cleavage-bedding intersections from folding of the sequence. #geology

Copy-paste what Stephen said!

Learned a lot during very interesting days in Bristol at the MSG research in progress meeting! Very interesting two days of talks and a great workshop on kinetics.

We have an age! Check out our latest paper on dating lower-crustal earthquakes! We combined apatite U-Pb data with microstructural observations (EBSD, CL). Open access! @MicroLuca @NjordUiO authors.elsevier.com/sd/article/S...
