What is the fall-back procedure is when an air traffic control centre loses contact with the aircraft it's guiding (in this case about 90 seconds). Can secondary ATC centres take over, temporarily? Aircraft can't all just freeze (or do patterns) in place? What is the standard response?

The most important point in the BBC headline here is at the end, in small print. To “displace most Palestinians in Gaza” is a horrific war crime, inflicted on millions of people. The brutality and scale should shock us. And compel action. Headlines like this need to underline the shock, not mask it.
