A real pleasure to catch up with Sir David King this morning.

Just watched @mmflint.bsky.social Roger and Me for the 3rd time and it’s even better than I remembered.

A wee jaunt around Hackney on the most energy efficient form of transport. About half the energy of walking and 10 to 25 times less energy per distance travelled than my diesel Skoda.

It’s like they’re openly murdering The Observer while gaslighting us out of existence. Seems like the exact kinda thing Clegger would be involved with.

Near perfect production of The Glass Menagerie at the Yard Theatre in Hackney Wick. Closes in May when the theatre is demolished and rebuilt.

Fascinating read here. Deep, thoughtful, and touches on some of the fundamental questions around how we live with AI and in particular, what makes us human. However, I can't help feeling that the author is essentially arguing that AI is a god that we must capitulate to.

If there’s anything we’ve learnt from Trump and Brexit vote, it should be that we shouldn’t underestimate the attraction of populist rhetoric. But that doesn’t mean we mimic that hate-and-divide narrative. That means we ask: why is it so attractive to ordinary voters? Why are voters so discontent?

A company called "The Woodlander Initiative Ltd" (TWI) has been purchasing plots of land in Cymru. According to HOPE not hate, TWI is “a land-buying scheme aimed at far-right activists and conspiracy theorists with links to Patriotic Alternative (PA), the UK’s largest fascist group”.

One of the greatest things about living in London is randomly stumbling into a death metal gig being held under the A12.

I've just come back from the Cambridge Disinformation Summit where I gave the opening keynote, titled "Demanufacturing Consent - How Disordered Discourse is Destroying Democracy", featuring everything from Fake Hooves to Jackson Hinkle being the worst. www.youtube.com/watch?v=D-FV...

“We live in an age defined by its absence of grand narratives or genuine visions for the future.” Fascinating and insightful editorial by @peterjukes.bsky.social We need independent media now more than ever. Support fearless publications. Take out a subscription.

Finally got to watch Luchino Visconti’s Il Gattopardo. An epic story of aristocracy’s struggle to adapt to democratic upheaval during Italy’s unification. In some ways the opposite of what’s happening today. Much to learn from this masterpiece.

‘Reform is launching a drive to raise funds from wealthy offshore donors in low tax jurisdictions including Monaco, UAE and Switzerland.’ Britain’s election laws are broken - and, so far, Labour’s mooted fixes are completely insufficient www.ft.com/content/b133...

JD Vance just followed “reactionary fascist” Curtis Yarvin on Twitter. Yarvin preaches the need to replace democracy with dictatorship/monarchy and has suggested a “humane alternative to genocide” is needed to deal with “unproductive people.” Vance considers him a brilliant thinker.
