My Lorne Michaels story: He and Scarlett Johansson attended the Correspondents' Dinner last year because Colin Jost was hosting. I went up toward the front to say hello to some folks and ended up next to them. I was so star-struck by her that I didn't even realize who was next to her until later!

Anything happen in the last six weeks? 🤔 After some much-needed time off, I'm back at the helm here in D.C. for @sfchronicle.com ! Time to go through the Mount Everest that is my inbox... 😅

Some personal news: I'm going to be taking some extended time off. It feels weird to be doing this at the start of a new administration, but I've had a rough few years (both professionally and personally) and I need to prioritize my own well-being. Wishing everyone joy and rest in the new year ✨

I carry naloxone with me! It's really easy to use.

This is a good way of phrasing something I’ve thought about for a long time but had a hard time expressing: that media outlets worry a lot about seeming *biased* or *dishonest* but not enough about seeming *phony* (and being cautious/euphemistic/opaque only contributes to that)

I'm looking to talk to a federal budget expert (particularly someone versed in how grants are terminated) ASAP. Anyone here that can speak to me for journalism?

Happy birthday to ME!!

Has anyone seen the names of any of the people who received clemency or pardons from Biden today??

1/ Here’s a story about how journalism works. Spoiler Alert: This is how we decide *not* to publish. We were recently looking at Pete Hegseth’s different statements over the years about West Point, where he has said he was admitted. First stop: West Point.

I just want to shout out Chewy for continually having the best customer service in the entire world. They set a high bar for every other company. (They aren't paying me, I just appreciate them a LOT.)
