Unfortunately, I was one of the thousands of new USDA scientists let go yesterday. It was an absolute honor to work there. If anyone in the southeastern Michigan area knows of a role that might match my background, I would really appreciate it. Thank you for your support!

Strong background in genomics and bioinformatics education and community engagement. Currently located in Bethesda, MD. Updated CV: app.box.com/s/hg5g6z05cz...

Many universities can not cover the cost of doing research on indirect costs alone, even with negotiated rates >50%. This will result in massive job losses across the country and many smaller programs will cease research activities entirely.

Apologies for this long post I put together to explain to non-scientists the impact of NIH cuts: Last night, an “atomic bomb” was dropped on the biomedical science community. We were informed that effective immediately, indirect costs on NIH grants (both current and future) would be fixed at 15%.

The end of an era. @brandontwchen.bsky.social brought us kicking & screaming into cell biology, and what an exciting journey it’s been. We are so very proud of everything he’s accomplished! Join us 1/17 for his defense. Thereafter… watch out NYC, here he comes!!

The 3 hardest things to learn as a scientist: 1. Trust the data, even when it’s not what you expected, 2. Trust the data, allowing it to change your direction, 3. Trust the data, but not too much: test with new data at every turn.

Although tricky to target, #ProstateCancer cells that lack p53 still depend on the integrated stress response and can be killed with inhibitors of the enzyme GCN2 that disrupt purine synthesis. Read more in #ScienceSignaling: scim.ag/3D6Lyme

Well this is interesting. No more F32 at NCI. Replaced with K32. Anyone know why?

Science takes time - a lot of time. Time that is more and more difficult to make available because of increased workloads. Time that exceeds the temporary contracts of postdocs and PhDs. I'll illustrate this using our paper published in Nature yesterday. 🧵 (1/x) www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Listen up 👂 It's hard to over-hype this paper from Michelle Monje and Crystal Mackall on cellular therapy for #DIPG, a fatal childhood brain cancer. It's not a perfect therapy; doesn't always work. By goodness, what progress we are making! #CanSky #MEDsky #PedCanSky www.nature.com/articles/s41...
