There’s a pub named The Winston in my hometown. It had a painting of Winston Churchill as the pub sign. For years my cousin convinced several of our friends that the painting was of her grandpa.

When my dad (RIP) was in his most excellent nursing home it was my fantasy to be booked in there, in my burned out state, so I could sleep and live on mince, gravy and mash and jelly and ice cream for a few weeks.

Nice of my iPad Pro to develop a wonky charging port just as work gets mad busy. I can’t really spare the time to go to the Apple store or the wait to get the repair done there.

Please, please archive your work. Please. I’ve recently been saving lots of my essays as pdfs just so the Internet doesn’t suddenly delete them all (this happened to a whole load of blogs I wrote for The Independent years ago). I don’t want you to wake up and suddenly find your work gone like I did.
