In man or fish, wriggling is a sign of inferiority.

I don't think this was cosmically prescient or anything, but I hope the love-energy encoded in it was comforting to Ms Flack.

Happy hundredth to Edward Gorey.

Feb. 19, 1775: A Loyalist in Boston expresses confidence that the patriots can’t stand up to the British: “The moneyed men are convinced that acts of rebellion will be punished with confiscation of their estates, and that is a penalty they do not feel bold enough to experience.”

been spending way too many hours in hospitals lately (as a visitor, thank the gods). thinking about writing a zine to leave in waiting rooms to get through to people who probably don't know what's going to happen to their healthcare in the next few years.

a lovely recent entry from the "my high school English teacher never told me THAT" files: cw for 19th century medical abuse, misogyny, disordered eating.

One thing I can attest to after a lifetime of being bullied is that when they say "give me your lunch money or I'll beat you up" they really mean "AND I'll beat you up." This is in no way relevant to US university administrations, who really don't have any incentive to stick to their principles.

Wow! After I posted my “There is No Transgender Debate” pictures yesterday I got a TON of positive feedback & lots of folks asking for posters and prints. So I’m making them free to download, with a new poster. Download them below - and thanks for the support! alternatehistories.com/blogs/news/f...

The minor celebrities I've known in person have always sorted themselves neatly into "mensch" & "non-mensch." A long time ago, I served time in a dysfunctional startup under an opinionated bozo whose name is currently in the discourse.

I emailed an old friend out of the blue & got the nicest response. I do this from time to time & yeah, there are sometimes crickets, which is a bummer, but when vibes & serendipity line up it is just so nice to reconnect like that.

If the Mars colony has developed such a “rich and amazing “ culture in the 70 years since it was terraformed then why is all their jazz in 4/4 ??

I load up the old skyline & the Archers are trending. Trending? Maybe it's only in my network because I follow the Museum of Rural English Life? Anyway it reminds me of a joke reported by Jeremy Summerly, a joke of his tutor's, referring to the medieval first rhythmic mode as Tempus Sagittarii.

Bears reposting, since the flood of disinfotainment has only worsened since last week. Katherine Cross: "For most people, social media gives you this sense that unless you care about everything, you care about nothing. You must try to swallow the world while it’s on fire."

If I'm posting a lot of fluffy adiaphora here right now it's because the majority of my political typing energy, such as it is, is going to emailing my elected fishfaces & leaving furious reviews of bootlicker apps (g**gl* m*ps & c*l*nd*r, I'm looking at you, Gulf of America, my ass).

One of my favorite absurd items from sheet music shop was the Piano/Vocal/Guitar songbook from Fifty Shades of Grey; it seems to have gone into a new edition, even — the first cover, iirc, was a necktie lolling louchely on a piano keyboard. It featured an easy solo piano setting of Spem in alium.
