So glad that @davidzahniser.bsky.social wrote about something I've been complaining about forever. Clipping off the Q&A makes it even harder for small newsrooms to cover press conferences that are often announced last-minute — if you can't physically be there, you don't get the full picture

LAFD Chief Kristin Crowley is no longer fire chief, according to Mayor Bass' office. "Mayor Karen Bass today met with and removed Kristin Crowley as Fire Chief effective immediately."

After I wrote my story last week that included a burnt Pennzoil ad from a Westways magazine I found in my yard, I heard from at least 100 people who had experienced the same thing. Thanks to @lataco.bsky.social's Lexis Olivier Ray for getting to the bottom of it

Earlier I crossed paths w/ a few ppl attending to an unconscious man on the sidewalk. I called 911 & was eventually connected w/ a paramedic. LAFD gave me instructions over phone while someone else gave chest compressions. The man thankfully regained consciousness as LAFD arrived.

Any government employee knows SMS text messages about work are public record. City of LA's "solution"? Self-destructing messages. LA acts as a secret government. To obstruct press, they enforce phantom laws that don't exist, zombie laws courts already rejected, and file frivolous suits. Thread 🧵👇
