Cycling home from work is such a great way to destress. The steady motion, the fresh air, and the quiet rhythm of the ride help shake off the day’s stress. The cool breeze and the changing scenery make the commute feel less like a routine and more like a well-earned reset.

Pedro Pascal responding to transphobia on social media: “I can’t think of anything more vile and small and pathetic than terrorizing the smallest, most vulnerable community of people who want nothing from you, except the right to exist.” (via @charliejane.bsky.social) [capitalfm.com]

THIS #nzpol mountaintui.substack.com/p/cycleways-... - @mountaintui.bsky.social

It's a shame to see the safety of cyclists, and potentially pedestrians, being compromised. This is merely a decision based on the reckons of Councilors who never supported cycleways in the first place www.thepost.co.nz/nz-news/3605...

Wellington cycleways are under attack. I'm surprised to see some Councillors backtracking on safe streets and sustainable transport. Everyone deserves safe streets 24/7. @cyclewgtn.bsky.social www.thepost.co.nz/nz-news/3605...

A timely and terrifying map of all the Auckland streets upon which Simeon Brown is unilaterally imposing blanket higher speeds. Includes heaps of short streets and cul de sacs around schools that will all revert to 50kmh zones. By decree, and against all logic and evidence. For “productivity”.

The Post/Stuff has some odd slants - I presume they want to keep piling on Genter as "emotional". Have they chased Andrew Bayly down the street & at his house like Golriz for touching that young graduate he "held"? This story makes me like Julie Ann Genter so much more #StuffisStuffed #nzpol

Vision Zero is achievable

We know that having a car-centric city is not the future Wellington wants. Let's not put money into tunnels. Let's put money into accessible, reliable and sustainable public transport. It's better for our people and our planet.

The government announced new sanctions for those on Jobseekers. Why? A look at the evidence suggests that they do little to help. Might they be about demonising the poor instead? A 🧵 From beehive.govt.nz

A reminder that Wellington was never designed for cars. Insisting on providing for the movement and roadside storage of cars necessarily means a negative impact on the character and urban form of NZ’s capital city. wellington.govt.nz/news-and-eve...

The underlying misogyny and racism in Aotearoa which means a privileged white man in politics gets a pass when news breaks about being a convicted sex offender yet women in politics get weeks of coverage for daring to exist in public has to be addressed and changed …if we had willing media leaders 🫠

Top work from Ngaio and Crofton Downs kickstarting a suburb wide household emissions reduction programme. This is a community driven programme that has the support and financial backing of Wellington City Council. Just goes to show what collaboration can achieve.

“One mile on a bike is a $.42 economic gain to society, one mile driving is a $.20 loss.” “Which means that Copenhagen, a city of 1.2 million people, saves $357 million a year on health costs because something like 80% of its population commutes by bike.” #CityMakingMath grist.org/biking/one-m...

Ngaio and Crofton Downs want to be the first carbon neutral suburbs in the world. We love seeing grassroots climate action! Huge thanks to @rebeccamatthews.bsky.social for pushing this initiative 💚 #nzpol www.stuff.co.nz/nz-news/3605...

“Ultimately, we want to make sure that the system taxpayers are paying for is delivering against their expectations,” the new Health Minister says.

Amazing mahi Councillor! I can’t wait to see this in Wellington along the golden mile. #nzpol

CAN is disappointed at speed changes from the Luxon Government. They deny basic physics, expert evidence, and decades of progress on reducing risk. These changes increase risk and will lead to avoidable harm. Dave Cliff and others explain why at www.rnz.co.nz/national/pro... @cyclewgtn.bsky.social

What this says to me is that we just don’t have enough bus lanes in our cities to have developed a culture of actively avoiding the bus lane when driving. There’s more to be done to develop this culture and enforcement is a part of that. So is installing more bus lanes. Let’s get on with it.

This is exactly the stuff that matters and people need to hear. This is also why we’re in local govt - to help our community on the ground ❤️

It was great to share such a positive story with Mayor Campbell Barry. Our Wellington region is working hard to get on top of our aging pipes 💧 www.1news.co.nz/2025/01/25/w...

Thanks @misswhanau.bsky.social it has been awesome watching this happen. 1 point relating to your use of the word consumption. WLG hasnt been consuming water, we have been leaking water. We don't need water meters, we need leak free infrastructure.

The Post printed an article today asserting that Wellington’s car parking is “overstretched”. I asked what their basis was for asserting this, given that WCC parking occupancy at peak times is only 52% and there are around 30,000 car parks overall in the central city. They removed the assertion.

Labour, Greens & Te Pati Māori should hold weekly opposition press conferences (across ALL social media platforms), NZ media won’t give enough coverage, so do it together, build an audience & mainstream media will have to cover it at some point. Win the messaging game. Start now. #nzpol #Kikorangi

INCREDIBLE!!!!! 🤯

Yes! Four point gain. #LFC
