"Forced sterilization laws are a really powerful example of how violations of disabled people’s bodies and rights are baked into our legal system today.” For @motherjones.com, I reported on how disabled people continue to be forcibly sterilized. www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

I was interviewed by Laid Off to discuss losing my job at HuffPost and the importance of disability reporting. Please give it a read! laid0ff.substack.com/p/laid-off-t...

Going to relaunch my long-dormant newsletter, Marginalia, as a new home for my reporting, criticism, ideas, etc., as I figure out what's next. Subscribe here: marinafang.substack.com

I'm honored to have won a WGA Award for Outstanding Writing for my feature on Hamas' view of the Gaza war 6 months after Oct. 7 — a beast of reporting + writing made possible by incredible colleagues @huffpost.com 🙏🏽🧿 Here's to more journalistic ambition, whatever the odds, & to solidarity, forever.

An upcoming SCOTUS case could make it harder for disabled kids and their families to sue schools for disability discrimination. New from me at @motherjones.com. www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

Every dollar helps! Our GoFundMe for our laid-off colleagues is closing soon --please spread the word:

of the 12,000 complaints that were being investigated, about half of them were complaints from kids with disabilities who believe they've been mistreated or denied help at school www.propublica.org/article/depa...

Happy Valentine's Day! 💓 Since solidarity is my @huffpostunion.bsky.social love language, I'm bumping our GoFundMe for my laid off colleagues. Please donate if you can!

So many more people are going to die because of this man. We are absolutely fucked.

if you can, please help us get to $20k for my HuffPost pals who lost their jobs www.gofundme.com/f/stand-with...

It's a good day to read my @motherjones.com article on how cuts to Medicaid will impact disabled people's ability to receive services in their community. www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

solidarity with co-workers brings me joy www.gofundme.com/f/stand-with...

If anyone knows of any news outlets that would be interested in disability news stories, please send them my way!

If your research project that intersects with disability is impacted, please email me at [email protected].

Elon Musk and DOGE have made their way to the federal Department of Education. What we do know is any changes will likely harm disabled students. Check out my @motherjones.com article on Project 2025 attacks on DoE. www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

Truly incredible. www.hollywoodreporter.com/business/bus...

No mention of the fact that five days ago, he laid off 25% of HuffPost's journalists in the name of cost-cutting www.hollywoodreporter.com/business/bus...

Before I was laid off, I wrote about Questlove's Sly Stone doc. It ponders the pressures of representation that might have eluded Stone. Chaka Khan, Andre 3000 and D'Angelo testimonies more pointedly illuminate the paradox of success and how it can impede Black art. www.huffpost.com/entry/sly-st...

Hey there. HuffPost went through some brutal layoffs this week. A lot of folks I deeply respect were impacted. My book never would’ve happened had it not been for the editorial freedom I got at HuffPost. So! I’ll mail a signed copy to the first 10 people to give $100+ tonight. gofund.me/6391d9ff

A month ago was my 1st day @HuffPost as National Investigative Reporter, what I thought was a new chapter for me Today I was laid off, as part of cuts they announced 3 hrs into my first day I was just gearing up to dig into 3 investigations. If your newsroom is hiring reach out

Journalists: If you’re not covering this, you should be. I know Section 504 can seem ungodly, unbelievably wonky, but it is a fundamental plank of disability civil rights law in the US.

Heartbroken to be among the HuffPost layoffs. It was a dream job, and I'm grateful for the 2.5 years I had there. Now is the moment to give your support to the news organizations and independent journalists that you trust. Please send any leads re: work to [email protected].

HuffPost laying off their disability reporter in this particular political moment is certainly A Choice. Shruti is excellent and any newsroom would be lucky to have them.

After nearly a decade at HuffPost, today is my last day. I’ve grown so much & I’m grateful for the journey. This has been a dream job and now I’m on to new dreams. I’ll still be writing, hosting and moderating, just doing it as a freelancer for now. Pitch and commission me at [email protected].

honestly thank you guys. a nice tribute to the impact of my work at huffpost <3

Back to say: It’s been an honor working at HuffPost with such an amazing team of talented reporters. I’m especially grateful to have been a part of @HuffPostUnion and for the tremendous effort they have put forward to ensure that layoffs were as humane and fair as possible❤️

Yesterday, I was laid off after 10 years at HuffPost. I’m obviously gutted. But once I take a breath, I’ll be open to jobs & freelance work, both in journalism and outside of it, given the state of our industry. To get in touch: [email protected] Signal: marinafang.72

@shruti-rajkumar.bsky.social is a total pro who has a bright future ahead. Hire them – quickly!

@huffpost.com letting one of the very few journalists that cover disability is shameful.

After 9 years, my time at HuffPost has come to an end. Amid another round of bloodbath layoffs this week, I raised my hand for a buyout — a decision that stung but felt right for me. I'm outraged for all my wonderful colleagues who are losing jobs due to no fault of their own.

After over a decade at @HuffPost, I’ve decided to take a buyout in the latest round of layoffs. It's tough to leave a place I love & I’m so grateful for all the people here, & all the faith they’ve put in me through the years.

Welp. I've been laid off. I'm so proud of my work at HuffPost. But I want to give a special shout out to my Culture crew @tarynitup.bsky.social, @marinafang.bsky.social, Njera Jenkins and Erin Evans for holding us down. It's rare to be on a team with all women of color. We were amazing together.

After 11 years, my time at HuffPost is coming to an end tomorrow. Last week, I learned HuffPost would be ending its dedicated coverage of energy and climate change. So, I took a buyout.

HuffPost laid off so many excellent journalists today, including a national investigative reporter we hired literally *one month ago*

I'm so sad to share that I was laid off by @huffpost.com today. My heart goes out to my colleagues who were also impacted by this round of layoffs. This job has been so amazing and I'm forever grateful. I'm still very overwhelmed by the news, so more from me soon❤️

Now is a good time to read my @motherjones.com article on how attacks on Department of Education will disproportionately harm disabled kids www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

Hi, I am @motherjones.com' disability reporter. In the following weeks, I am very interested in hearing how tariff nonsense impacts getting your meds and medical equipment. My email to get in touch is [email protected]. Reposts appreciated.

Trump’s war on the federal workforce will disproportionately affect workers of color.

If you're an LGB person and you aren't standing up for trans folks right now (and always), you are a traitor to the movement that made it possible for you to live the life you're living today

The president implied that the crash was caused by the FAA's recruitment of people with "severe intellectual disabilities" and "psychiatric problems."

The race and national origin, age, and sex discrimination pages on the Department of Education's Office of Civil Rights "Know Your Rights" website take you to a error page.

"Safety aside, does he believe disabled people have a place working in the federal government?" the reporter asked.

The move follows executive orders signed by Trump last week targeting diversity, equity and inclusion programs within federal agencies and transgender Americans.

"When it comes to many of the federal agencies across our government, people should not be hired based on their disabilities…” the WH press secretary said, dodging a question about Trump blaming disabled people for yesterday’s plane crash. www.huffpost.com/entry/donald...

Howdy, all — Today is my last day at @huffpost as its 3rd editor-in-chief. It was a tremendous honor, and I will always have the utmost respect for the journalists who work there. The decision to leave was hard (we were facing layoffs; I left to save jobs), but it was the only decision in my mind.
