This is so fucked up. ICE agents in Massachusetts smashed the window of a car to grab a Guatemalan guy who was with his wife. They were waiting for their lawyer to arrive because he has a pending asylum case. Story via @wcvb5.bsky.social: www.wcvb.com/article/ice-...

There’s just so much shady shit in this story, but this really sticks out. Folks in NLRB’s IT unit were so freaked out by what they saw DOGE doing that they wanted to notify the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency. Then this happened:

A federal judge in Maryland on Tuesday ordered a defiant Trump administration to provide evidence about how it has tried to secure the release of an immigrant mistakenly deported to a brutal mega-prison in El Salvador, saying that to date, the record shows “nothing has been done.” buff.ly/SIwJ8zz

Early this morning, right on schedule, the IRS and the NYS Department of Taxation and Finance between them yanked a five-figure sum from my checking account. (This on top of five figures in corporation tax to New York City last month.)

Is this happening to anyone else? Over the past few weeks, we’ve received two checks and five letters from the Treasury Department addressed to people we’ve never heard of. (The checks had misspellings in the street name.*)

Friends, take it from someone who knows — don’t try this at home. Or anywhere else, either. gothamist.com/news/bronx-m...

Financial experts say it’s not helpful to look at your retirement accounts every day. Right now, you *should* be looking every day — and letting it make you very angry.

This is where I was yesterday afternoon. #handsoff

Imagine that. An angry protest in defense of our nation where no one broke a window or attacked the police.

The thing is, democracy is not suddenly unraveling. The Republicans have been laying this plan carefully and openly for over four decades. We’re now in the endgame.

On his Story Club Substack, George Saunders asked that this story, "Love Letter" (from his 2022 collection Liberation Day), be shared far and wide. (It's a PDF download.) Read it and ask yourself if we have already passed the point of too late. And have tissues ready. substack.com/redirect/9b7...

This sounds like every wrongheaded and doomed development project I've ever had to argue against in a planning meeting. Believe me, it will not go well. www.wired.com/story/doge-r...

We are very close to a near cure for two of the highest-mortality cancers we know: glioblastoma and pancreatic cancer. These are both mRNA based treatments which are losing their funding during stage I and II trials. Thousands will die needlessly because of this motherfucker and his lies.

If you have a student loan, the dissolution of the Department of Education might render the contract unenforceable. Read this whole post (as repetitive as it is in places), and maybe start talking to a lawyer. open.substack.com/pub/longmemo...
