I’m late to it but this @danigaravelli.bsky.social piece on prison suicides in Scotland is truly an eye-opener. Absolutely extraordinary that state-run prisons in the UK have Crown immunity.

It's very tiring, and sleep is precious. Lights Out.

This has left me fuming. The belittling tone! "Dame Judi Dench has been activated" Suggesting that only "thesps" care. How ignorant and misrepresentative. If you want a more informed take on the loss of Radio 3 drama, read the pieces in @thestage.bsky.social (including @eggsbened.bsky.social & mine)

Heralded as the father of Black History Month, Carter G. Woodson also fostered a continuously subversive practice of teaching and networking as a way to build educational capacity for Black students emerging into the era of Jim Crow and the Great Migration. #BoTD www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mlhc...

I’ve just spent 30 mins trying searches for topics relevant to the course I’m planning teaching for. For a while it felt like I was wasting time, but I’ve gradually build up a good eg on the importance of synonyms, & it all feels worth it. Just one of the egs of what goes into librarian teaching.

If you manage(d) the Twitter account of a library, archive, or cultural institution I think you have the responsibility to ensure the long-term preservation of that corpus of information.

The Cardiff University VC attempting to justify the cuts by describing them as "co-created with our community" is both spectacular cynicism and a great example of why both terms ("co-creation" and "community") need to be treated with much scepticism, especially when employed by large organisations.

The Scottish Gaelic translation of Still Wakes the Deep is deeply political

I have taken the resources that were in the budget and which you were probably saving for higher education Forgive me they were needed to feed the AI bubble and to dismantle the humanities

A library could pay for their own green server to run library software and experiment with new tech for over 8 years for the cost of one non-member ticket to this conference.

Ruaraidh Erskine was born #OTD 15 January 1869 in Brighton. "This includes anonymised NHS data". Hugely worrying. AI will very likely see straight through the anonymisation because it can cross-reference with other datasets. I talk very openly about my disability and health. It helps others. That doesn't mean I want to share my full health records.
