As the Trump admin escalates its attack on public libraries, PBS’s Independent Lens documentary #FreeForAll explores why they’re vital to culture, community and democracy. Watch it tonight on @pbs.org: www.salon.com/2025/03/30/r...

Last night I watched the new #documentary Free for All: The Public Library, streaming on PBS as part of the Independent Lens series. Directed by Lucie Faulknor and Dawn Logsdon, it traces the history the public library in the US and looks at current challenges. www.pbs.org/independentl... #libraries

And after Lost Cultures, we'll be at Catopia on Wednesday at 6:45.

Experimenting with Heylo - it's loads better than Meetup, but there's hardly anyone in Albuquerque on it! Anyway, our next Meetup is at Lost Cultures on Sunday at 6:30! See you there! #albuquerque #silentbookclub

April 26 is Independent Bookstore Day! bkwrks.com/event/2025-0... Let's meet up at Domingo Baca to chat and read at sunset! Bring your own camp chair or picnic blanket. Those of us who participated in the event can show off their hauls and then we can curl up and read for a bit. Weather permitting!🤞

We'll try LALA this Wednesday! See you at 6!

Just FYI, April's Catopia meetup is cancelled due to construction shutting them down next week. If you want a cat, they're hoping to adopt their remaining ones out ASAP so now's the time! But Sober Sunday! Reading at the Lost Cultures Tea Bar is still on for April 6! More to come!

President Trump's executive order to eliminate the Institute of Museum & Library Services would have disastrous effects for communities nationwide. We call on all Americans who value reading & learning to reach out to their elected leaders. Read ALA's full response: www.ala.org/news/2025/03...

Next two SBC meetups coming up!

Great audiobook walk in the bosque! We'll be doing it again for sure! 3 porcupines spotted, along with plenty of sandhill cranes and gulls. #silentbookclub #audiobookwalkingclub #albuquerque

We're springing forward this weekend! Let's wind down our late sunset on Sunday by going for a walk in the bosque with our audiobooks! The plan is one mile of audiobook listening and then one mile of optional talking or more audiobooks. See you at Pueblo Montaño Picnic Area and Trailhead at 6.

Another great Catopia meetup last night!

Back to Catopia tomorrow!

Just got the two usuals on the books right now.

Happy 50th birthday to our Main Library! Who is going to the celebration this weekend?!

Just got the two usuals on the books right now.

Wonderful walk in the bosque today! We spotted a porcupine while listening to our audiobooks. 🥰 This was our first walk but not our last! We'll definitely be going on audiobook nature walks monthly.

Books and cats! We'll be back! #catopia #catcafe #booksky #albuquerque

FYI we're overlapping with a painting event at Catopia tonight so if you can't concentrate on reading, you have options. :P

Catopia at 6:45PM on Wednesday AND a new audiobook walk and talk event on Saturday! We'll start from the parking lot under I40 and go to the labyrinth, 2 miles round trip. Here's the trailhead: maps.app.goo.gl/93QdDRScP1S8...

The latest update on the Quirky Books saga. The city council meets tonight to discuss this and is open to public comment. Find helpful links to learn, attend, and give comments here: linktr.ee/QBABQ #albuquerque #newmexico #localbookstores

Blind Date with a Book was awesome - we'll definitely have to go again next time! Next up: first Sunday (2/2) of the month at Lost Cultures at 6:30 and first Wednesday of the month (2/5) at Catopia at 6:45.

Just noticed the image in my previous post was showing the wrong time zone. Let's go to Canteen's Blind Date With a Book event together! We'll do the usual, chat, read for an hour or so, then chat or read some more. Let's meet up to chat at 12:45 MST and I'll set the reading timer around 1:30!

Let's go to Canteen's Blind Date With a Book event together! $15 gets you a book, a pint, and a donation to charity. We'll do the usual, chat, read for an hour or so, then chat or read some more. We'll most likely be outside if the sun is out like last year. I'll set the reading timer around 1:30!

Three upcoming events!

Merry Christmas!

Next up: Napoli! December 30th at noon.

Anyone into jewelry? This isn't an SBC event but here's a good event sponsored by a good cause at one of the best used bookstores in New Mexico on Saturday.

Next up: Lost Cultures on Friday at 5:30! They'll also be hosting an empanada popup during and a local author event afterwards if you decide to stick around.

UN-17 this Saturday at 3PM.

Cafe Chica was definitely another wonderful reading location! We'll be back! Next up: we'll be back at the UN-17 Speakeasy at 3 on Dec 14.

Albuquerque has access to databases of old and new newspapers. (And, randomly, cake pans in fun shapes.)

Let's try another cafe! Tomorrow at 10, we'll be at Cafe Chica, an adorable cafe offering lattes, baked goods, and sandwiches. wearecafechica.com We'll chat 30, read 45 - 1 hour or so, then chat or read some more. I'll start the reading timer at 10:30. First time at this location!

Another fabulous and distracting meetup at Catopia tonight! Next up: Cafe Chica at 10AM on Saturday!

We'll be at Catopia at 6:45 tomorrow! This is our worst reading location 🥰 so I'll just set the timer for 30 minutes at 7:15 and we can try our best. #catcafe #silentbookclub

Three more events coming up and more to come!

Another great meetup at Lost Cultures! Next up is Catopia on Wednesday at 6:45!

Tonight we'll be reading at Lost Cultures Tea Bar! Sober Sunday!

Snapdragon Tea was FABULOUS. What a wonderful place to meet. Let's do it again! The rest of our reads are on the Facebook group. Our next meetup is Lost Cultures Tea Bar on Dec 1 at 6:30!

Another sale to check out this Saturday... Hm, should we do a bookstore crawl?

In case you need another reason to go book shopping in Albuquerque...

A new event on the calendar! Cafe Chica at 10AM, Dec 7.

We had a lovely time at Catalyst Coffee today! All the rest of our reads can be seen on our Facebook group. Next up: Snapdragon Tea on November 29th at noon.

Happy Friday! What's everyone reading this weekend? Tomorrow we'll be reading at Catalyst Coffee! (Artist: Frédéric Forest)
