@paolobacigalupi.bsky.social reading"A Full Life" really changed how I live for my kids.I would share it with others,but can only find it behind a paywall which is hard to get others,already reluctant, to subscribe. Do you have an access point with less friction? Happy to buy for others if giftable!

@gardenersworldmag.bsky.social I was disappointed in the comments about using foreign trees for biodiversity in the 1st winter special episode. Please check out Doug Tallamy and maybe even invite him! Biodiversity needs to be about the ecosystem, not about trees that the insects and birds can't use.

My neighbor tore down their garage to put in an ADU. They said they feel guilty about building a space they won't use as it will mostly be a guest bedroom. Our society has taught us that it is better to have a bedroom for cars than for friends.

If you want to fly to a destination you have choices between different schedules and carriers. If you want to go 0.5 mile to get bread in the morning, you must drive because often there is not even a sidewalk.

We were late to the bike parade. A friend asked if we still biked. I said, "of course we biked, I was already running late so we didn't have time to drive and find parking." Recognizing that travel time is door to door really reframes which are the fastest modes of transportation.

Everytime I walk somewhere, I end up arriving late. Not because I don't leave enough time to get there, but because I, on average, run into three people on the way that I end up chatting with. In a car, you don't build community.

I'm pretty sure that the majority of people who are anti-daylight savings drive their kids to school. Those without kids don't care that much as it is still dark when they get home anyways, and those that do have kids who walk and bike to school are ecstatic that they are less likely to be killed.
