Today we have published new research on the special schools workforce in England: an under-researched sector that can get neglected and misunderstood in policymaking. Part 1 looks at staffing, and part 2 next week will have even more insights 👀 www.nfer.ac.uk/blogs/explor... Thread 🧵👇

Child poverty outcomes in the UK are poor when compared across multiple fronts, be it other age groups, other decades, or other countries. Children are much more likely than adults to be in relative poverty in the UK.

The #FederalElection 2025 in Germany shows a strong left-right polarisation among young people, under increasing consideration of smaller parties. #Bundestagswahl2025 www.tagesschau.de/wahl/archiv/...

In September, I joined the Scottish Centre for Administrative Data Research project team on education. Luckily, I was able to take part in SCADR's very own Intro to Admin Data Research course, which helped me 'getting to grips with administrative data analysis': www.scadr.ac.uk/news-and-eve...

The two-child limit remains in place, and its impact will continue to grow as the policy affects an increasing number of children as time goes on. We estimate that an additional 63,000 children will become affected by the policy between now and April 2025.

A festive looking University of Edinburgh this morning.

Pupils with special educational needs or disability (SEND) are seven times more likely to be excluded, acc to research by @ippr.bsky.social in 2017. Stories like the one in the Guardian show that there's a link between school exclusions, #SEND and lack of support: www.theguardian.com/education/20...

#bundestagwahl

So long, Twitter. A colleague of mine said today that 'resistance is also a choice'. So here we are. Don't care about followers, but miss the time when I appreciated the platform to connect with fellow political activists back in my #EuropeanFederalist days and international researchers.

The Brexit brain drain will continue and quicken if this comes to pass “fears that UKRI would be left with no grant funding at all to offer next year is deeply concerning and will do real damage to our research and innovation ecosystem” www.theguardian.com/science/2024...
