A recent story request was for a cheetah with the additional please for a jet to be included. Cheetah + Jet = Spot Gun! www.spreaker.com/episode/spot...

Granted, this is hyper-local to me. New Forest District Council commissioned me to write and illustrate a Trail Tale, a story booklet that takes visitors on a journey around a local park. It's full of local history, from Vikings to flying boats, and the local community can pick up a copy for free.

We had a request for a story from Sylvie in Australia who wanted a tale where an ant and an elephant were best friends. Sometime I think the kids are trying to catch us out, but not this time! www.spreaker.com/episode/new-...

We ask children to suggest an animal for us to write a story around at the Animal Tales podcast. Stella, from Newcastle in Australia, wanted a lot of animals. A cheetah, a cat, a bat, a unicorn and a pegasus. So I rolled up my sleeves and wrote this: www.spreaker.com/episode/the-...

Tommy, aged 4, sent a brilliant video requesting a story featuring a skunk and a hyena. It was great to be able to picture him while I wrote it. Tried channeling some Looney Tunes mayhem too: www.spreaker.com/episode/stin...

Lincoln, who is 4 and from Wisconsin, sent us a lovely video message asking for a story with an alligator, a rhino, and an eel. That's a tough combination, but I like the challenge. This was the result: www.spreaker.com/episode/char...

Very pleased... music.apple.com/gb/album/spi...

Walter the Orangutan, expediently moves through the forest on his way to work, when suddenly, something catches his eye. "Look at this tree. Wow. You don't see this kind of craftsmanship anymore. The bark, grain pattern, and sturdy construction. Must have cost a pretty penny."

This week's Animal Tale was requested by Lottie in South Carolina. She's very concerned with how few red wolves are left in the US (not many at all) and wanted a story to help raise awareness. So this is it: www.spreaker.com/episode/the-...

The grand reveal of the 16.5m artwork at Ashurst Train Station happened today. Really pleased with how it all turned out. Being something of a squash on the platform, visitors were encouraged to gather opposite, then come across for a closer inspection as the celebration continued.

This story was requested by Oliver, aged 7, from New York. He wanted a story with a mouse, a rat, a snake AND a dragon. Yeah, go on then: www.spreaker.com/episode/a-mo...

Today was the final session of a cartoon club I've been running at a local school. Part of it involved the kids drawing me. Here are four of my favourites.

Few more pics from the finished illustration...

I've just completed a colossal artwork for Ashurst Train Station on the edge of the New Forest. It's just shy of 17m in width and depicts New Forest scenes and wildlife from the age of steam to the modern day, and across the seasons too.

Little girl called Hana wrote and requested this one. She wanted 'a unicorn, a fairy and a kiwi bird' in a story. I like juxtapositions like this, where the odd one out in the request is clearly the kiwi. This was the result: www.spreaker.com/episode/the-...

Another bit of detail from the very long (17m) commission I'm working on. My first three children's books used colouring pencils with lots of hatched lines, and I still enjoy colouring that way even though everything I do now is digital. The fox is only a small piece of the overall illustration.

200,000 people have signed a petition urging @jardinematheson.bsky.social to halt the expansion of the Martabe gold mine in Indonesia’s Batang Toru Forest, home to the critically endangered Tapanuli orangutan. @eko.org news.mongabay.com/2025/03/glob...

I wrote this story in support of the World Wide Fund for Nature as part of Podcasthon, a global initiative for podcasts to share a good cause that they care about. The tale is about Hafid, the last Tapanuli orangutan in a small pocket of forest You can hear it here: www.spreaker.com/episode/the-...

Drawing friendly cartoon Vikings today.

Ray, from North Carolina, wanted a story with an opossum, a bushbaby, and a platypus. This is what I did with it... www.spreaker.com/episode/the-...

Currently working on a 17m wide commission of the New Forest. It's HUGE. This is a tiny bit of it...

It’s always fun to take fairy tales and play around with them. I wrote this one for the Short Stories For Kids podcast about what Goldilocks got up to between waking up and arriving at the Three Bears' house. www.shortstoriesforkidspodcast.com/episodes/epi...

Fred, from Carcavelos, Portugal, wanted a story with an aardvark, a caracal, and a pig. This was the result (although it's a Premium episode so you only get the first five minutes): Here’s a taster of our new Premium-only story. www.spreaker.com/episode/new-...

Book Week, day 4. I've illustrated over ten books for Farmer Bryan's stories at Longdown Activity Farm. This is the latest, Jethro The Duckling. And you can get it here: www.ceratopiabooks.co.uk/picture-book...

I was at Ballard School in New Milton to celebrate all things books today, reading stories, drawing made-up animals, and leading a drawing workshop. I particularly liked how this one turned out – thank you for your suggestions YR and Y1!

National Book Week, Day 3, and today I wanted to share our short story books featuring tales from the Animal Tales Podcast. Each book features stories written by either myself, or my daughter Alice, based on suggestions for animals from children all over the world: www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0CLJQZ9C...
