need to try and sleep. here’s robin blaser (the first poem in the holy forest)

this review is incredible both as an excruciating unraveling of non-argument *and* as an example of both how to write a good review of a bad book, and how to do so without being universally negative

This was actually a really nice remix but christ how is this 5 years old now???? www.youtube.com/watch?v=gZgh...

there is something significant to learn from the fact that the named party here has a tattoo saying "Deus Vult" and has on multiple occasions accused other Christians of being moral relativists.

I was watching a lecture the other night on the idea of myth as like, a cultural vocabulary of narratives and the speaker used WWII as an example of something that was mythologized within decades and, while reading a bunch of primary documentation from the 30s this has v much stuck with me

I initially thought "hey I don't mind them thaaaat much" but then realised the true scam: they're a ploy to get you to buy hardbacks, so you can use the back flap of the jacket to keep your place in the notes

the counterpoint of this is that the absolute disappears into relativism when push comes to show and everyone assumes everyone else is just as self-interested and broadly dishonest as they are - truth becomes equivalent to that brute assertion, and so functionally equivalent to power...

kinda have a vibe that what we're seeing is, in multiple senses, the consequences of thinking that one can brutely impose an abstract value on the world without mediation the desire for that unites the actors across purportedly irreconcilable differences, the mess is the result of that

I think this is extremely relevant rn

this is nuts, what the hell

This is a very good point as a corollary to many of the most rigorous reconstructions of the origins of the Rabbinic movement concluding that the commonplace that the Rabbis are basically just a continuation of the Pharisees is, at best, an oversimplification
