Regarding the European power outage. Have the nutters started the conspiracy porn yet?

What Labour have to understand is that Reform voters, like MAGA, will never ever be happy with their lives. Grievance both fuels and defines them.

Extremely depressing to watch but a solid piece of work by Theroux. https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2025/apr/27/the-settlers-review-this-vital-film-forces-louis-theroux-to-do-something-hes-never-done-before

Twitter has essentially become a propaganda tool for Reform and a rabid anti Labour cesspit. Who decided this?

Every other Pop song these days is someone bleating out their tedious personal diary. Enough already. Keep your witterings to yourself.

Trump will still be claiming he got bigger crowds. #vatican

Just struck me, did anyone even ask Trump to release his tax returns during his second election campaign, or has that requirement just been thrown in the dumpster?

Seriously. When a pint hits £10 pubs will collapse. In London we’re only £2 away.

"Vladimir... NOOOO!"

Sad news. David Thomas, singer of Pere Ubu RIP This album was rarely off my turntable when released.

This is one of the best break downs of tarrifs and their relation to US history I’ve heard. www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/...

Reform’s anti Green policies make no economic sense. Not really surprising from a party than formulates most of its ideas on the back of one of Nigel’s fag packets. https://www.greenpeace.org.uk/resources/reform-manifesto-analysis/

Trump caving on China. Musk quitting DOGE. Putin holding firm on Ukraine. All send one message. America is weak. Stand tough and eventually this administration crumbles.

Enough snarking: At least the Pope got to feel the love from his followers the day before he died. Not a bad way to go.

Good Friday movie. Loads of subtext and dodgy imagery. Marvellous.

The free world needs to decouple as best as possible from the USA for the next four years. Leave them to Russia, North Korea, Hungary, Israel, and er… El Salvador.

“It’s time for a comprehensive national civic uprising. It’s time for Americans in universities, law, business, nonprofits and the scientific community, and civil servants and beyond to form one coordinated mass movement.” Welcome to the barricades, David Brooks. 😉 www.nytimes.com/2025/04/17/o...

Jessica Chastain suddenly turning up in my timeline. Not complaining but wha..?

Gives a whole new flavour to Gallo wine. “His personal website advertises his services as an escort, as well as selling vials of his sperm, at $1m apiece.” https://www.theguardian.com/film/2025/apr/17/karla-sofia-gascon-to-play-psychiatrist-who-embodies-god-and-the-devil-in-next-film

Question: after yesterday’s Supreme Court ruling will it be appropriate for trans men to be allowed into male designated spaces such as sports centre, swimming pool changing rooms should there be underage boys present? I can see things becoming complicated.

Seems to me Trump’s using this Abrego Garcia deportation as another useful distraction from the tariff meltdown. Flood the zone etc

A movie that takes place where you're (briefly) from.

Arcade Fire embracing hippy escapism on the first single off their new album. Encapsulates the Democrat reaction to all the madness going on. But ultimately not helpful. youtu.be/UpYapWU--JA

In celebration of the 100 year anniversary, I reread The Great Gatsby for the umpteenth time. Also watched the two most celebrated film adaptations. The Redford/Farrow, while a tad dull, is a closer reflection of the book. Luhrmann’s version is a clumsy cartoon for thirteen year-olds.

Good news: if Trump’s medical report isn’t worth the paper it’s written on, chances are he’s not fit enough to see out his term.

NY trust fundies. There'll never be a level playing field. Bit like Russia. nymag.com/intelligence...

Quickest way to devalue peerages would be to do away with the terms Mr and Mrs and simply call everyone Lord and Lady instead.

The King is in Italy, the Prince of Wales in Paris. Closer European ties or what?

Looking forward to this. I’ve loved her other books. https://www.theguardian.com/books/2025/apr/09/patti-smith-to-publish-intimate-new-memoir-bread-of-angels

Keir Starmer and his colleagues across Europe need to accept that as far as the American administration is concerned, they are dealing with absolute morons.

The most stupid people in the room have backed Trump and even they must be realising it now. #Farage

These fucking suited MAGA pricks being wheeled out to spot bullshit. #channel4news

The baboon blinked.

Have to say watching Americans go into a total meltdown is almost as good as Rick losing his shit at the snake farm.

Lydon on Hamas. Fairly blunt. https://www.independent.ie/entertainment/music/john-lydon-i-have-great-fun-ribbing-bono-he-doesnt-have-much-of-a-sense-of-humour/a849890016.html

This season of White Lotus took an age to get going. Picked up in episode 5. Accelerated towards the end. But ultimately unsatisfactory. The storylines of the characters were relatively so siloed it felt like watching a bunch of different dramas.

You get the sense that if it has to take sides the world will choose China. If only because it hasn’t unilaterally bullied them with a series of measures that are both reactionary and economically unsound.
