When disabled people try to get into work...

There were always these stories about Osborne battling Duncan Smith about cuts but I didn't believe them then, and I don't really believe them now, because both HMT, DWP and the PM have been hostile to social security since July.

Having promised not to raise tax the easy way (income tax, VAT, employee NICs) and discovered how difficult it is to raise it from people with wealth (non-DOMs, farm owners) Govt decides to take money off the poorest in society bit.ly/4gNbqSi cos there’s lots of them and they can’t move to Monaco

Those stupid DWP vans mean nothing if policy is still making things worse for people.

It's 20 metres since the Tories.

It is utterly unfair that we are making those who can least afford it bear the greatest proportional cost to fund our social housing and local authority service provision. This is not sustainable. It breeds the very conditions that the far right feeds off. High cost of living, low life prospects.

We don't need to denigrate our social fabric any further, we just need to tax the savings and income of Robert Saunders and other people by about 5% more.

Unsurprisingly, the PM speaks exactly like someone who has never had to navigate the modern social security system, let alone who has read any of the stats on fraud and error. Unrelentingly depressing.

How did the @rspb.bsky.social know our love language is accessible bird dating scenarios? 🫶

Just homes for working people, is it? What a joke.

This is so very thorough - not just careful examination of the problems but going over some of the practical solutions to the ingrained things getting in the way of building the homes the country needs. Not the ones the government needs. As you'd expect from @peteapps.bsky.social

It is well worth reading @peteapps.bsky.social on how the current Labour government's plans for New Towns differ from - and fall far short - of those delivered by the 1945-51 Labour Government: open.substack.com/pub/peteapps...

Try that down the Jobcentre.

Never in a million years would I think if we had a human rights lawyer as Prime Minister in a Labour government, we'd see actions like this

Ugly start to #PMQs from both @kemibadenochmp.bsky.social and @keirstarmer.bsky.social. A clear message from both: settlement schemes ok for white Ukrainians fleeing war but not for brown Palestinians fleeing genocide.

Surely the DWP will appeal this? it's a quarter of a billion pounds they're reclaiming from unpaid carer "overpayments". To spend on being more like Reform.

Think the main takeaway from the article is that only one in six employers now use Jobcentres because they have become a place where people are forced to apply for unsuitable jobs or face sanctions. Rules which are still in place. The vans themselves feel icky, regardless of the glowing review.
