Nova Update: The latest imaging data for T Coronae Borealis (T CrB). No sign of a nova yet. #BlazeStar #Astronomy #Astrophotography #Science #DeepSkyPhotography

From member Imran Bader: Deeper in the core of the Rosette nebula, we see several Bok structures. Bok Globules are pockets of dark cosmic dust and gas, usually containing newborn protostars on their way to becoming fully fledged main-sequence stars. 🔭 #astrophotography

Here’s more about why we’re still waiting on the Blaze Star. And about how you can see when it does finally erupt as a nova. earthsky.org/space/blaze-... From @earthskyscience.bsky.social

Highpoint Scientific acquired Orion Telescopes & Binoculars and Meade's remaining inventory after they closed their doors last year. They have announced that these items will be going on sale tomorrow at a 40%-60% discount. youtu.be/vcPn1IWrzKk?... . . #telescope #binoculars

Member Doug Loyer managed to get in some observing time in between rainstorms and cloudy skies, and with a mere 2 hours of integration, captured this image of the Flame Nebula (NGC 2024) using an Askar 120 APO - 840mm FL telescope with an ASI 533mm camera. #Astrophotography 🔭

The bright gibbous Moon shines over Mars, Pollux, and Castor at nightfall. As evening grows late this scene rotates clockwise, so that by 10 or 11 p.m. Mars shines straight left of the Moon. buff.ly/4gxVDGT . . #astronomy #stargazing #gemini #mars

Another stunning image from member Imran Badr! California nebula (NGC1499) and surrounding dust taken in San Jose, CA, over 54 hours and 42 mins between November 2024 and January 2025 using an Askar FRA300 Pro telescope and ZWO AM3 mount. 🔭 🧪 #astrophotography

Member Kal Krishnan captured the Rosette Nebula (NGC 2244) while collecting data at Rancho Canada del Oro Open Space Preserve. Taken over ~2.5 hours at an aperture of 80mm, F/6 with an astro-mod Canon SL2. #astrophotography 🔭

The latest work of art from member Francesco Meschia features the region around the Christmas Tree cluster, a well-known and popular winter imaging target. Color balancing has brought out the image's yellow, purple, and teal. 🧪 🔭

Hey everyone, it’s been a hot minute since I updated this starter pack. Let me know if there’s someone I should add! go.bsky.app/9D4mwU4

Mars was at opposition on Thursday, January 16, and member Rich Klein captured this image of the red planet using his 8" Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope. He "took a 5000-frame video, extracted the 600 best frames, aligned them, stacked them, sharpened and denoised them." 🔭 🧪

Member Imran Badr combined data from 2022 and 2025 from two different cameras, using the same telescope and mount (Sky-Watcher Esprit100ed), to capture this stunning image of the Orion Nebula (M42). 🔭 #astrophotography

Every 26 months at opposition, we get our best views of #Mars. Member Christos Gougoussis captured the red planet in all its glory using a Celestron C11 from his backyard in Fremont, CA. Check out that polar ice cap! #astrophotography 🔭

Member Doug Loyer went camping in Death Valley in December 2024 and captured the Horsehead Nebula (Barnard 33) for the first time. Taken with 50 exposures at 180 seconds each using an Askar V 80mm. #astrophotography 🔭

After sunset tonight, look west for the waxing moon between blazing Venus and golden Saturn. By Saturday evening, the moon will be closer to Saturn. Keep looking up! For more, visit: https://earthsky.org/astronomy-essentials/visible-planets-tonight-mars-jupiter-venus-saturn-mercury/

A long first day of 2025 and I've returned home to some clear sky! Here's Jupiter and its 4 Gallilean Moons. Top left downwards its Callisto, Europa, Io and Ganymede #astronomy #astrophotography

Member Sukhada Palav had some lucky timing in Yosemite National Park this past weekend! They pulled over at a pullout on Wawona Road, facing west to watch the sunset and then used their cell phone to photograph #CometA3 🔭🧪

Rogelio Bernal Andreo captured this image of #CometC2023A3 on 13 October at around 19:35 from San Luis Reservoir, California. He used a Canon 70-200mm lens @ 145mm, and a Sony a7s camera. No tracking. #Astrophotography 🔭 Visit his website: deepskycolors.com

Taken from Laguna Seca, just south of San Jose, CA, on October 12 by member Akshay G, this image shows #CometA3 ☄️as photographed in the early evening sky. More pictures to come! 🔭

From member Francesco Meschia comes this stunning image of the Ghosts of Cassiopeia, taken recently from Pinnacles National Park. The bright star is Navi, the Gamma star of Cassiopeia, which provides the energy making the ghosts, IC59 and IC63, glow. 🔭 #astrophotography

Member Joe Fragola captured📷 this gorgeous photograph during an RV trip through the Pacific Northwest and a bit further west to Glacier National Park in Montana. The image was taken with Joe's iPhone on Monday, Sept. 16 around 5:30 am (Mountain Time). 🔭 #astrophotography

Member Bryan Murahashi got up early to take a picture of bright #cometA3 from the hill at the Sunnyvale Baylands, toward Mount Hamilton and Lick Observatory. 🔭 Equipment: Nikon z8 Tamron 150-500mm F/5-6.7 Di III VC VXD

Join us on Tuesday, October 8th for a question and answer session with SJAA volunteers. Any and all questions related to astronomy and star gazing are welcome. The fun starts at 7pm online. Come with questions! See our meetup page to sign up: www.meetup.com/sj-astronomy... 🧪🔭

Did you catch the Moon occulting Saturn last night? From member Bryan Murahashi: "The skies were clear at 4:00 in the morning, so I took a bunch of pics of the occultation. Super-Resolution, 600dpi, 100% crop in Photoshop." 🔭

From Imran Badr: "NGC7814, also known as the Little Sombrero, is an edge-on spiral galaxy in Pegasus. It is about the same size as the Sombrero galaxy (M104) at around 60,000 light-years across, but lies almost twice as far away at around 40 million light years." 🔭

From member Glenn Newell, enjoy this stunning image of the Black Hole Nebula (LDN 323). Taken using an Orion EON 115mm ED Triplet Apochromatic Refractor Telescope and ZWO ASI1600MM COOL camera. 🔭

From member Aris Pope: "This is VdB-141 (The Ghost Nebula). I began this project at GSSP where I was able to collect 14 hours over 4 nights. I was able to capture 9 hours of data...over Labor Day Weekend. So far this is just over 23hrs of data." 🔭

From member Francesco Meschia: "Barnard 343 is one of the dark nebulae in E.E. Barnard’s catalogue. It sits about 2 degrees west of Gamma Cygni and 2 degrees north of the Crescent nebula, and maybe for this reason it doesn’t have many “individual” images on Astrobin." 🔭

Taken by SJAA member Brad Haakenson on 31 August 2024. The first image is the Helix Nebula (NGC 7293) in Aquarius, and the second is the Iris Nebula (NGC 7023) -- "a beautiful reflection nebula in Cepheus". 🔭 #astrophotography

That HUGE naked-eye (well, safely-protected-eye) sunspot is still easily visible using eclipse glasses. I just took this pic of it on my phone! And if you want to learn why they form and how to see them, read my new article in Scientific American! www.scientificamerican.com/article/how-... 🔭🧪

Lots of sunspots on Friday's Sun - 9 August 2024. 🔭

Comet Tsuchinshan-ATLAS might not be falling apart after all. Last week, respected researcher Zdenek Sekanina suggested the comet's destruction was inevitable and underway. New data give hope that it could survive for a daylight apparition later this year. spaceweather.com 🧪🔭
