This is a fascinating thread, and yet the era of box beds wasn’t exactly ancient history. Can’t help but wonder what other customs have been lost to time.

What can you learn about an owl from their piercing eyes? There /seems/ to be a correlation between iris eye color & activity cycle. Owls with YELLOW eyes are more likely to be 'diurnal': day-hunters, as with this Northern hawk-owl (Surnia ulula) which hunts, like a hawk, in the daytime.

I recently bought a feeder that’s supposed to attract woodpeckers, but instead there’s a Carolina wren who visits it all day, every day. And while I love all birds, I’ve now seen this wren up close after it landed near my window, and I gotta say, he’s become kind of a chonk at my expense 😂 #birds

I find it both frustrating and mind boggling how much sooner El*n brought EVs to the masses than the major automakers. I want so badly to buy an EV but I won’t buy a Tesla, and nothing else fits the budget yet for the type of car I want.

Pretty cool fish in mouth pelican shot from this morning. 🪶

Merry Christmas, Bluesky

During World War 1, fighting temporarily ceased in the trenches for Christmas and some German troops put up a sign meaning God with us – GOTT MIT UNS. The British troops then crawled across no-man’s land and wrote their own message on the German sign – WE GOT MITTENS TOO

Complex, interesting oil paintings are hanging in my studio unfinished. They are unique; my own style. My favorite way to blend science + art. I love them and will get back to them eventually. But right now I’m captivated by painting planets on little pieces of clay. 🐡🔭🧪

Came across some urban chickens yesterday and couldn’t help but laugh at the white one. I believe it’s a Polish chicken, with its large crest and beard. #birds

We have a very little advertised Phone Photography feed which definitely deserves more attention and participation.

(Finally) escaping twitter reminds me of this mystic I once read who said that the gates of hell are always open for those who are ready to leave.

The other day I was busy working at my desk but I kept hearing the neighbors’ dogs barking. I finally looked outside - a Cooper’s hawk was calmly sitting on a fence post, knowing full well that the dogs could see him but not reach him. If it’s possible to troll dogs, this bird was doing it #birds
