Charles Dickens (botd) to George Eliot, 18 Jan. 1858: “In addressing these few words of thankfulness to the creator of the sad fortunes of Mr. Amos Barton, and the sad love-story of Mr. Gilfil, I am (I presume) bound to adopt the name that it pleases that excellent writer to assume.

Early film animation pioneer Lotte Reiniger’s poster, “The Tenth Muse,” with cut-out silhouette images of the nine traditional muses, plus the muse of cinema, “Cinoterpe,” rushing in with a reel of film.

It’s a constitutional crisis yes. But it’s also theft. They’re looting public resources for private gain.

Smart science and real people working and writing ftw.

These people are literally villains in a Charles Dickens novel

The angry response to the Bishop’s sermon is telling. They can't control our capacity for empathy, it's their kryptonite. It's a bucket of water on the wicked witch.
