I was hoping for more wisdom by the time I got to this stage of my life. Well, I'll just roll with what I've got. 7 decades...what a long strange trip it's been.

Sunset glow through Pele’s breath over a ridge on west Maui.

Haleakala shrouded in the breath of Pele. Vog (volcanic smog) coming up from Kīlauea eruption on the big island.

I have only read 40 pages of Report of the Last Miracle at Little No Horse, by Louise Erdrich and I am going to tell you that you need to read it. The writing is just so masterful that I was drawn in by the first sentence and carried along from there.

Moli, or Laysan Albatross on the north shore of Kaua’i. These guys are hanging out in a residential neighborhood. You can see them in cul de sacs and on lawns.

I am resetting my search engine as DuckDuckgo. I will be looking for some kind of map alternative. The hardest one is, how do I transfer my email to another service? Can I transfer my contact lists? Resetting my calendar will be tricky too. Any suggestions?

The name, internationally agreed on, Gulf of Mexico has been replaced on Google Maps. This is how propaganda works. Chip away at even the smallest things while destroying the big things. Make people believe you want them to be proud to belong while you make their lives miserable.

*IMPORTANT* The AMA has a youtube channel where they are posting Seasonal Flu, Bird Flu, TB & Ebola outbreaks as the CDC is not currently doing this. Here's a link to the the weekly update. youtu.be/HlPBmT_R0po?... Remember to subscribe to help keep your family safe!!

Monk seal in Kapa’a, Ha’upu in the distance. Kaua’i.

Under my lanai. Where Kaua’i wild chickens come from.

It finally came! Our new refrigerator. You can’t just buy appliances off the floor here.

Storm blowing in from the southwest. Big waves tonight. Pretty exciting.

As requested, no explanation

Google has announced that it will change the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America on its maps. Hello Duck Duck Go. We are starting to be drowned in of propaganda. China discovered that overwhelming internet sites with propaganda is easier than prohibiting information they don’t approve of.

A little hike up the Maha’ulepu coast up by Kamala coast.

I just planted some Cara Cara oranges last year. I had no idea they would bloom so soon. Orange blossom is one of my favorite smells in the world.

@marthasgardens.bsky.social great to see you here! That’s the market in Florence?

1/4I won’t post a photo, some may find it disturbing. For context: On Kaua’i there are about 30 wild pigs per 1 human. There is a lot of food insecurity here. The pigs do damage to crops, plants and wildlife. Pigs came on the canoes with the original settlers from Kahiki..

2/4 They were also used in ceremonies. The dividing line between their land divisions--ahupua’a--were marked by an altar where an offering of a pig had been made. The word ‘ahupua’a’ means, ahu/altar; pua’a/pig--pig altar. OK? This is what I say

3/4 As I was riding my bike around today I saw an older man skinning a pig in his front yard. His skinning knife moved in a steady rhythm and it was clear that he had done this many times before.

4/4 He also looked about as happy as a man gets. I wonder if he will cook it in and imu (pit oven) wrapped in ti leaves. I hope his ‘ohana enjoys a feast.

Down on the beach, children made a sand Honu (turtle) using a live model. Good work.

It’s snowing in Houston the day after the inauguration. Check that list of things that weren’t going to happen until hell froze over.

Many of you already know, my father will be 100 years old March 9th. I have been preparing to go to Florida and celebrate the event with him and his husband Frank. This has been a pretty amazing time of reflection for me. He taught me a lot of wonderful things that I never properly appreciated.

2/2 As the last arc of the sun was on the horizon we got the green flash. At that moment a siren went off right behind me. I started the turned. A life guard in a truck was laughing and threw Shaka. He was just celebrating the green flash.

1/2 We were on the wall near Kōloa Landing here on Kaua’i. There were a couple of whales out there and the sun was setting orange through a haze of vog up 300 miles from the big Island.

In case any of my friends here haven't been contacted yet, I am starting a poetry discussion group. Let me know if you are interested in joining in.

I was just talking to my son who is immersed in the world of the neurodivergent and he pointed me to this cartoon to help explain the experience. Enjoy Tendril theory-- the-art-of-autism.com/why-its-hard...

I also have to recreate what it was that I was doing and thinking about and re remember what it was that I was in the middle of. This must be terribly inconvenient for the people around me. I tend to get upset but I have a commitment to communicating when i notice myself getting upset.

I was doing a plumbing project, that takes up a lot of brain space. Lynn wanted to interact with me about other things which in normal worlds is apparently workable. For me it was excruciating. It's work to stop what I am doing/thinking about and engage with what she wants.

Movie recommendations: sweet kitty movie The Duke starring Jim Broadbent as an eccentric elderly SJW in 1961 and Helen Mirin as his long suffering wife. He gets involved in the theft of a Goya painting of the Duke of Wellington. Good drama with a lot of laughs. Based on a true story.

I am starting to be welcomed here by several friends. Thank you.

I am now done with fb. My neighbor Zuck has declared that fact checking is biased (?!). I am moving all of my social media here and see if I can get my fb followers to move and follow me here.
