remarkable that the White House cannot just say that Putin is responsible for Putin's war

"Donald Trump is constitutionally ineligible to run in 2028 and the text of the constitution is very clear about that" is a statement of fact, but "they want Trump to stay in power for life" is a statement of fact too.

So much family values

Former NFL player Chris Kluwe arrested during Huntington Beach City Council meeting www.latimes.com/socal/daily-...

If Patel’s confirmation scares you and you’re worried about the FBI being used to wage war and terrorize American citizens, just ask Black people for advice, they’ve been dealing with it for decades

Letters went out to federal workers this morning stating they were fired due to poor performance. However, all employees had been rated as “exceptional” performers by their supervisors. Please keep these records and pursue wrongful termination claims. Let the lawsuits begin.

From @stephaniekelton.bsky.social : “The ‘national debt’ is just a historical record of $ spent by 🇺🇸 and not taxed away from us…” They fearmonger about it to make cuts to key programs — yet cut taxes for the rich, because they don’t actually care about the debt. open.substack.com/pub/stephani...

Former Capitol police officer Harry Dunn: "Mike Lawler who just said he wants to move on from January 6...We would love nothing more than to move on. Donald Trump, however, appears not to want to move on. He brings it up every single time he gets the opportunity."

I think journalists, policymakers and good govt types are struggling to understand DOGE because their mental model is that it is a government reform commission, operating like previous ones. Maybe. But it might be better to start thinking about it as a hostile takeover of the govt by oligarchs.

“The enemy” “Stephen Miller is the leader” A lot of troubling things here 👇🏽🫤

I would add to this Supreme Court 🧵: Simple incompetence. Clarence Thomas ending up as the lone dissenting voice in the first case testing the meaning of a majority opinion HE WROTE (Bruen, on gun control) is just grotesquely incompetent. It's indefensible for the Court to act like this.

I’m a Trump biographer and a Musk biographer. And I’m telling you...the latter is harder. Elon does more abominable things daily than Trump. By a lot. He’s a firehose of horror, and I’m finding it extremely hard to keep up with his malevolence. He’s truly the worst person I’ve ever written about.

Good look at contrast between Carter & Trump when it comes to corruption, personal wealth, & public service: www.publicnotice.co/p/jimmy-cart...

The world is inside out, upside down & on fire, but at least we get to watch MAGA tear themselves into shreds because the bigoted base just realized the billionaire bros who bought their Orange Jello Jesus the White House wanna give the tech jobs they can’t do to the brown people they don’t like. 🍿

One of the great questions starting Jan 21 is how will Elon and Donald communicate? Trump is all phone. Nothing in writing. Elon isn't going to take 10+ calls a day. I wouldn't be surprised if more than half their communications are via posts on Truth Social and X Literally.

In case anyone was wondering why the tinkle tape traitor woke up with a Panamanian bug up his ass seemingly out of the clear blue sky… This is why: Because he’s being investigated for tax evasion in Panama. Who’s shocked? Is anyone? Anyone at all? t.co/I1pt4guQd4

no wonder they hate DEI so much, it cuts off a lot of their employment paths

My God imagine if media had told anyone about this

FYI NYT folks, this poll shows Donald Trump is running the second-least popular transition in the history of the question, beating only his own first extremely unpopular transition. The New York Times is an echo chamber of sorts. Just like Twitter has become. s3.documentcloud.org/documents/25...

Incidentally, False Report to Law Enforcement is a crime

When Trump says "we want our FBI back" what he really means is, he wants to make sure they can never investigate or prosecute him again. This is not democracy.

Googling Stuff: Then v Now.

Thou shalt grant dreamers a path to citizenship -- if corporations can be people, so can actual people.

Trump impounds funds and someone challenges it as a violation of a law passed in 1974 prohibiting the President from doing such a thing and SCOTUS finds some tortured legal explanation for why the law is unconstitutional, Trump will then have the power to pick and choose who gets what

The same Republicans who whined about former California AG & United States Senator Kamala Harris being an “unqualified DEI hire”, are totally fine with Trump picking his friends, family, Fox hosts, tv doctors and top donors for advisors, Ambassadorships, Department heads and Cabinet posts.

This guy got caught in 2020 basically being on board with Trump’s efforts (before the now infamous coup attempt) to rig an election his people knew he was losing, and Biden just let him sit there for four years. Epic.

yep, essentially a maximal big government expansion, hewing precisely to Wilhoit's Law

Rep. Mark Alford: "It's gonna mean cuts to the 24 percent of the discretionary spending that we have. And it's also going to mean looking long term at the front end of some programs like Social Security and Medicare ... we can move the retirement age back a little bit."

We tried to warn them.

Elon’s mom sits in on meetings with him and Vivek as they discuss the US government. Let that sink in. finance.yahoo.com/news/elon-mu...

Hey look, Trump just lied as he endorsed the national popular vote compact, where states commit their votes to whoever wins the popular vote. 18 (Blue) states passed it. Guess it’s time for TN to join! @GovBillLee More: www.nationalpopularvote.com/state-status

I think my longest held, most controversial opinion is that should practically outlaw billionaires by creating a 100% marginal tax rate for income after $1B. Use that money to pay for universal healthcare and public college. Reduces income inequality and provides free, basic services.

Quite the headline generated by TN senate gop caucus chair Ken Yager 🫤

Assad was propped up by Putin. But Putin couldn’t help him — because Russia’s military has been devastated by Ukraine. Make no mistake: our Ukraine policy is working — it weakens Putin EVERYWHERE.

The Trump campaign paid a law firm employing RFK Jr. $100,000 in the weeks after Jr. endorsed Trump. The campaign made *no* other payments to that firm during the 2023-24 election cycle. No parties involved responded to NBC News' requests for comment. www.nbcnews.com/politics/don...

This is why legitimizing DOGE by acting like it’s a good faith effort to trim waste is so shortsighted. All you’re really helping them do is make room for more tax cuts for the super-rich and corporations.

Why is this couched as him sending "signals" when he outright says what he's going to do?

Don't assume maximalist outcomes for the Trump administration. That's a form of psychological surrender. We should attempt to exploit every stumble, failure, and misstep, and there will be stumbles, failures, and missteps.

In my book, Twilight of Democracy, I described how autocratic regimes use conspiracy theories as loyalty tests.

Sold.
