Posting this from months ago because we DO have homegrown experience with autocratic regimes in this country. In nearly half this country during the first 6 decades of the 20th century Black people lived under systems of cruelty, voter suppression, hate, state violence & corruption. Ask them!

Great meeting with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers! When our unions are strong, Minnesota is strong.

The sunrise that kept going! 😍 Wishing you all a lovely Saturday! 🤗 #towerbridge #sunrise #eastcoastkin #London #thephotohour #stormhour #photographylovers #loveukweather #photography #photooftheday #Saturday

Oh wow, that business jet pilot at Midway was warned NINE TIMES to stop before the runway. Tragedy only averted because those SWA pilots were absolutely on top of their game. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h04cF4cJDJc #aviation #nearmiss #midway

More tragic news about NIH and NIH science. Grant system is frozen and intramural program is being slashed. All will claw back on treatments and cures for cancer and other human diseases. This can’t be what the public wants. 🧪 www.science.org/content/arti...

Listen up you absolute fucking legends of stupidity, you glorious, star-spangled dipshits, you majestically brain-dead champions of mediocrity, you beige wallpaper of humanity… measles outbreaks do not HAPPEN ALL THE TIME in our country. Stop acting like this shit is normal. It’s not.

Quite the message from the guy running our government

Prof Doreen Stabinsky, who is on the technical council of SBTi, said: “You look at Bezos and the folks he’s hanging out with in the billionaires club, and you realise this is about more than SBTi,” she said. “Bezos is bowing down to Trump in a way a bunch of billionaires are bowing down to Trump.”

"An axis of autocracy [Russia, North Korea, Israel, the US...], facilitating an imperial war of aggression, confronts nations committed (albeit to varying degrees) to democracy & international law." Every nation, including Ireland, needs to ask if it stands aside, with, or against, global fascism.

🔥 CROCKETT: “Facts matter.”

Ben Meiselas: This is a time for fearless coverage. There's so much to report about every single day—what's going on in the White House every single day.. pushing back on that every day and saying it in a way that doesn't mince words. And I think that's what's connecting with our audience.

I hope you’ll read this piece I wrote about the insanity of Elon Musk & Utah Sen. Mike Lee attacking federal judges, yet another attack on democracy joycevance.substack.com/p/when-they-...

The embrace and protection of Andrew Tate at the highest level of US government tells you everything you need to know about this rotten administration. They worship at the altar of abusing women and girls. Their version of morality supports sex trafficking under the guise of camming

State AG’s stepping up

Another plane incident in DC: An American Airlines flight from Boston had to abort its landing at DCA airport this morning to avoid another plane that was taking off on the same runway, authorities said.

She stood at the corner Awaiting your return A heart made to ashes A body turned to stone, Flames of a fire Once delighted by your screams Now contours through the realms Of forgotten hopes and dreams. #WokeToJoy #booksky

PSA: It’s not an “editorial section” if the owner of the newspaper is telling you what you can or cannot editorialize.

Fuck you, John Roberts. Fuck you. www.cnn.com/2025/02/26/p...

People laughed a few days ago when @jamellebouie.net said we might not have flu shots next year, but:

Tesla’s shareholders just lost another $38,640,000,000 today — a total $TSLA loss of $600 billion since December. Tesla’s CEO was not in the office. In literally any other public company ever, this would be the point where the CEO gets fired.

Proud of the work my law firm did in this case! "An Arizona judge dismissed a lawsuit seeking to upend election policies in Yavapai County. The decision delivered a blow to a right-wing organization founded by Stephen Miller which brought the challenge." www.democracydocket.com/news-alerts/...

May you never silence the music within you, waiting for the perfect note to arrive. A song is not made in stillness, but in the boldness of hands striking keys, sometimes wrong, sometimes right but always in motion…

So he was drunk or lying.

A new $15 million jazz fellowship is granting 50 artists over the age of 62 a $100,000 grant, professional support and performance opportunities

Congratulations to Dr. Peter Hotez. I've had conversations with Hotez. Not only is he a brilliant man, but also a very kind human being. houston.innovationmap.com/peter-hotez-...

Just an FYI: Medicaid fraud is rarely perpetrated by beneficiaries. The fraudsters are almost always the doctors and CEO's that administer Medicaid. For example: when a doctor charges the government $600 for an $8 breast pump and pockets the cash and the third party administrator takes a cut.

Put all the “DEI” folks who got let go onto a new network and I’d watch the shit out of it.

I don't need to call out specific articles, but, if you read something about a "waiver" possibility in the Trump DOD trans ban, you need to read Law Dork, where I explain that the alleged "exception" is no such thing.

Just heard from a friend who is a true hero veteran. His company was destroyed in 30 days by the VA when they canceled 5 contracts without notice. 23 Americans mostly veterans out of work and a veteran owned small business destroyed. For nothing. They're dismantling the VA not "reforming" it.

For years I've been asking Trump supporters in line for rallies where they get their news. These are the only outlets allowed in the White House briefings now. It's a feedback loop, they will never hear anything else. It's a cult of certainty.

I’m somehow on a Heritage Foundation mailing list (😂) and they sent a survey to see what we think of DOGE. Who wants to offer some m-fing feedback?!? secured.heritage.org/the-heritage... Please share with a friend or a thousand :)

Given that Bezos just did a full takeover of @washingtonpost.com and now it can only report that America and money are great--today is a great day to cancel if you have it, you check to make sure you aren't paying for a forgotten subscription.

If the government were functioning, I’d be against a shutdown. The government is not functioning. Democrats should stand their ground and refuse to fund DOGE. www.politico.com/news/2025/02...

Yesterday was a fence fixing day, replacing rotten stakes on the front line with the mountain commonage, all that stands between a regenerating native Atlantic rainforest and ravaging sheep. This was my view whilst working. 🌍

This has to be one of the biggest opsec fails I've ever seen in my life. The actual director of the FBI driving around in the most conspicuous vehicle imaginable made even more so by it being neon red.

Musk just lost... checks notes... David Icke

One thing I'd note is that legacy media organisations were created in a top-down information system and acted as gatekeepers, while now we live in a peer-to-peer information system and any new media organisation needs to adapt to that reality and understand deeply what that means.

Hey Canadian scientists 🧪 I'm doing a story on how the turmoil at NIH/NSF etc is affecting your work... funding, collaboration, other? DM if you'd like to talk about it.

Brave to @jeffstein.bsky.social, WaPo's chief economics correspondent, for not wasting any time in stating what must be stated. Hopefully the first of many.

Bezos destroying the post opinion pages is just another reminder: Conservatives think free speech is when they can say what they want and when you can say what they want.

Come talk to me about this post in the comments www.emptywheel.net/2025/02/21/w... I want to know how people see themselves when they're working with AI tools. ...or talk to me here if you prefer, this just seems more ephemeral :)

This is both interesting about AI but also a really good description of how evolution has primed us to overidentify and fall in love with just about anything we come into contact with more than a couple of times.
