Last night's Pentagon massacre is much more than realized. Not just firing the black CJCS and first woman CNO but all the senior JAG officers and hiring a man who just joined 3 different crypto firms tied to Kushner and Thiel as Chairman. I did a deep dive into it open.substack.com/pub/fpwellma...

I’m sure people are going to trot out a host of bad faith arguments for the firings, but “historically, presidents do whatever they want” does not hold up

My cartoon for today’s @guardian books.

That he's comfortable with? Sure, I guess. Maybe to be comfortable, he should issue an order stating all flag officers must be white men over 6' tall with blonde hair and blue eyes? Would that also be disappointing? FFS, treating everything he does as normal will end up killing our democracy.

Gov. Mills showed precisely the sort of integrity in the face of political pressure that the majority of the party currently lacks. More importantly, she did so extemporaneously and without hesitation from a purple state where this isn't a universally popular position. www.maine.gov/governor/mil...

Thank you to everyone who has replied. I needed this. Going to bed with a smile, even if it's a melancholy one.

Donald Trump fired General C.Q. Brown because of the color of his skin. You know it. I know it. Everyone else knows it.

I'm still kind of freaked out, but in an effort to not have a stroke tonight, let's talk about less insane things. What are some movies that have made you cry? Interstellar gets me every damn time. The Patriot when his daughter finally talks to him. Green Mile - I'm tired, Boss.

Sure Trump fired the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs and the CNO....but they fired the top JAG's in the Army, Navy, and Air Force. Why would you fire the top lawyers in the armed services at night on a Friday? That's the part you should be freaking out about.

This one hits close to home. Unlike some of my peers, I have no desire to be rid of the NRC. I think having federal inspectors at every plant goes a long way towards getting the public to accept nuclear plants. When a plant can't meet standards, it must be shut down & Trump can't make that optional.

This is very, very bad. Am working on a write-up, but let’s just say that firing military leaders for blatantly political reasons is wildly inappropriate; firing all the too lawyers is ominous; firing them all at the same time is a terrifying five-alarm fire

Pay attention to this. Replacing JAGs with loyalists enables whatever orders Trump and Hegseth issue to be interpreted as lawful.

I think we’re officially in a new era of American civil-military relations (and not the good kind)

If you want the military to do your bidding, regardless of ethics or service history or anything else, one of the most important things you need to do is remove the service lawyers who will tell combatant commanders what's legal and what's not.

They are gearing up to do war crimes and don't want any JAGs doing their sworn duty of talking back when the war crimes are proposed.

I don't even know what to say at this point. This is classic authoritarianism. Consolidate control & fire anyone who might have a reason to not follow your orders, legal or otherwise.

🚨BREAKING: Federal Court GRANTS sweeping nationwide injunction against Trump DEI executive orders finding that they violate First and Fifth Amendments to the Constitution. A huge victory for @democracyforward.org and its clients. A stinging loss for Trump. Visit www.democracydocket.com for details.

It is mind-boggling to me that people say "but I had to comply with the fascists because otherwise there would be some cost—" NO FUCKING KIDDING. Did you think you'd never have to make a hard choice in Fascist America? That you wouldn't be asked to sacrifice someone and be rewarded for it?? JFC

Gov. Janet Mills of Maine threatened legal action after President Trump said he would withhold funding to her state unless she complied with his executive order banning transgender athletes from women’s sports. Read more: nyti.ms/3F2nn9a

In today's edition of there are no good billionaires, Mark tries to explain why it is ok for the US to extort mineral rights from a country currently fighting to exist.

uhhhhhh nope don't like that one bit

Dark mode anyone?

And, of course, as with all of the other obviously illegal & unconstitutional things, he will get away with it until & unless the people who swore oaths to country & Constitution in the Article I and Article III institutions stop violating those oaths.

Most people probably aren’t tracking this but Senate Republicans just started an all-night voting marathon that will allow them to gut Medicaid and increase child hunger while giving handouts to billionaires like Elon Musk.

any mutuals up for the Maplewood MN protest on Saturday morning?
