DOE wants to eliminate regulations which require buildings receiving fed funding to be accessible to disabled people. We need comments submitted by TOMORROW MONDAY 6/16 Pls help push back! Instructions+template: dredf.org/action-alert... More background: www.disabilityscoop.com/2025/06/09/e...

"Our calculations suggest that the proposed budgetary cuts to the NIH will create a social cost that is 16 times greater than the savings that the administration is attempting to achieve." jamanetwork.com/journals/jam...

I don't think anyone outside of universities, pharma and biotech, independent research institutions have any idea of what is happening right now. If you haven't sounded the alarm among your friends, family and colleagues, now is the time to do it.

"Musk’s sojourn in government has revealed severe flaws in his character — a blithe, dehumanizing cruelty, and a deadly incuriosity. This should shape how he’s seen for the rest of his public life."

The CDC has been updating #SARSCoV2 genomics every 2 weeks but has failed to do so since their 9 May post. covid.cdc.gov/covid-data-t... This isn't a good idea with 2 new variants emerging (NB.1.8.1 in Asia, and XFG in the US). Graph by @jpweiland.bsky.social

This is a political purge of universities, a destruction of knowledge and expertise that will be felt for generations. www.nytimes.com/2025/05/21/u...

🚨 They just advanced the Republicans’ reconciliation bill through the Budget Committee. This bill guts healthcare, scientific breakthroughs, and a livable future to fund tax cuts for billionaires. We need pressure NOW. More on this to come - stay tuned. www.npr.org/2025/05/19/n...

Devastating NIH cuts to infectious disease research, eviscerating our nation’s capacity to fight emerging infections and pandemic threats. From @sanders.senate.gov report out yesterday www.sanders.senate.gov/wp-content/u...

The next president has to do two things: 1) right the wrongs of Trump and go after those who broke the law and were corrupt. 2). Then spend time divesting power from the presidency and building real guardrails and passing laws like, “the president is not immune” etc. And get the money out

The cognitive dissonance required to support the government saying both “Forget vaccines, you just need fresh, healthy food” and “We’re firing all the food inspectors” is truly staggering.

staffers are still cleaning up the Kristi Noem mess after she got gutted/filleted by @chrismurphyct.bsky.social this is A MOMENT. #MustWatch 🧢 @trumpfile.org

The Trump administration has terminated HICPAC, the CDC’s infection control committee. The committee sets national standards for hand-washing, mask-wearing and isolating sick patients. This reckless move will make patients at healthcare facilities much more vulnerable to deadly infections.

oh yes the same people who acted like they were being murdered when they had to put a piece of cloth over their faces definitely understand the concept of shared sacrifice

You forgot to mention she resigned in protest in January after you killed her cartoon about your plutocrat owner.

Listen!!! I teach Sociology as well. Do you know how hard it is to be teaching about how our society abandons marginalized groups (like disabled people and children) while those groups are STILL being abandoned amidst COVID???? The US sacrificed a whole generation for the "economy." Again.

CALL Republicans & ask them WHY they're OK with this. (202) 224-3121 www.science.org/content/arti... #NIH #NIAID #MedSky #PublicHealth #BiomedicalResearch #VaccinesSaveLives #COVID19 #cancer ##Alzheimers

All this time and the “art of the deal” is just getting away with it.

This week’s main story is about the budget and staffing cuts being made to public health agencies in the U.S. under RFK Jr.’s leadership, how those cuts will impact all of us, and some foolproof ideas for what scientists can do in the absence of totally superfluous stuff like, y’know, centrifuges.

If we really want to take on chronic diseases.... by @virusesimmunity.bsky.social and @hmkyale.bsky.social #LongCovid, post-infection syndromes, immune system assessment and intervention gift link www.wsj.com/opinion/how-...

Here’s last night’s story about the impact RFK Jr. is having on public health, and why the rate of diabetes in China is *not* fifty percent. Can you hear us, Robert? Robert, listen to us: you have to stop acting like half of China has diabetes. It’s wrong, and also very weird! youtu.be/8H34jcpEsFs

The attacks of #Trump, #Musk, #Vought, #RFK, #Bhattacharya on federal funding for medical research and their interference in how private universities function ARE WILDLY UNPOPULAR in addition to being deeply destructive.

The juxtaposition of these stories in yesterday’s news cycle is quite troubling: • Independent advisors purged from the Pentagon. • The DOJ turns on Wikipedia for supposed ‘propaganda.’ Authoritarianism is overtaking our democracy with such velocity that many people haven’t felt the acceleration.

This isn't about scientists alone. NIH generates jobs and economic investment in communities across the country. This is an attack on your community, your state, your livelihood, your health, your survival. H/T @joeallenjoe.bsky.social.

This statement about the transphobic Supreme Court ruling by the UK's Crab Museum (yes a museum about crabs) is better than 99% of the statements I've seen on the topic www.crabmuseum.org/visit 🦀🦀🦀🦀🦀🦀🦀🦀

Always baffles me when someone said “I didn’t hear about that when I was a kid.” Of course you didn’t. You were a child. You hadn’t heard of most things. I didn’t know who Paul Newman was when I was a kid, that doesn’t mean he didn’t exist.

The bad news: growing risk of an H5N1 outbreak in humans in the USA. The good news: 60 minutes has noticed & the public “may” be more aware of the risk. The bad news: DOGE cuts have hobbled the ability of the US gov’t to respond; and Congress is no longer esp responsive to public concern.

So, covid.gov now redirects to, uh, this... www.whitehouse.gov/lab-leak-tru...

Every day that Abrego Garcia isn’t returned or accounted for a deep dread grows in me that we’re approaching a moment where we’re going to learn the President of the United States has set up a system of death camps.

When Andrew Tate was charged with rape and human trafficking, Trump intervened to fly him back to the US. When a working-class father of a disabled 5-year-old child was wrongfully deported and charged with NO crime, Trump refuses to lift a finger.

DHS telling foreign nationals they must report for registration and fingerprinting. This, when ICE is nabbing people at court dates and (today) a citizenship exam. It’s a fucking setup. www.dhs.gov/news/2025/04...

I can’t think of anything more Orwellian than the U.S. imprisoning hundreds of thousands of immigrants in a concentration camp named “Fort Bliss”.

I'm expecting Trump to shutter NOAA research, especially in weather/climate. I don't even know if it's worth commenting on, I think we all understand. He's going to do it. The damage will be immense. Crops will fail. People will die, directly and indirectly. It's just going to happen. Expect it.

If you're an American, your *personal* exposure to climate risk (and its economic fallout) is skyrocketing right now. This will not end pretty.
