Something that deserves recognition: At federal labs such as NOAA’s NSSL, ESRL, or EMC, most employees are first hired on as contractors through a company or cooperative institute. After several years, many get “promoted” by being hired as Feds. These are the “probationary employees” getting fired

If you were a gov't employee who was recently fired, go here and enter your info. democrats-science.house.gov/sciencefirings

From a colleague: "make sure to file appeal with MSPB and look into joining 1 of class action suits. Filing for unemployment sometimes goes retroactive and only works once you file, it depends on state. Folks need both an SF-8 and SF-50 to file for unemployment (plus pay stubs)"

NOAA family, please share: Linked is a crowdsourced document via r/fednews on Reddit with advice for terminated employees. Not perfect, but it’s at least something. Some kind of guidance in this horrible time. docs.google.com/document/d/1...

Sending love to all my friends being impacted by the unconscionable firings hitting NOAA today

All probationary federal employees at NOAA’s EMC that’s responsible for keeping all US weather model systems running have been fired with 1 hours notice. And that includes me and colleagues. We will not go quietly because we care about the NOAA mission to protect the public.

Several confirmed terminations of probationary employees across NOAA today. These are good, hardworking, dedicated public servants working to better our country and its people whose lives, careers, and livelihoods are being destroyed w/o cause. Absolutely heartbroken. This is wrong.

I just got fired from NWS . This email is all I know. Read if you want.

RIP

Hope you all had, excuse me, a damn fine Monday

Interesting localized snow event over the next 24 or so hours for some of the frontrange, especially Denver area. Potent 500 hPa wave will impinge upon the region providing concentrated forcing for ascent. Winners of this event likely somewhere along the Palmer, totals upwards of 6" possible #cowx

Upcoming pattern looks favorable for active weather in the CONUS east of the Rockies. Amplifying high-latitude blocking forces cutoff low to sit over the Hudson Bay area for a prolonged period, advecting Arctic air into CONUS and possibly phasing with several lower-latitude disturbances.

Brilliant diagnosis as always here from Tomer

Currently 70° in Highlands Ranch (6k feet), 40° in Brighton (5100’). #COwx

Some interesting stuff going on with temperatures in the Front Range this evening. Shallow backdoor cold front is getting blocked by the foothills, and so it will actually be quite a bit warmer at higher elevations this evening. #cowx

Catching up with Wisconsin basketball and have to say I'm really impressed with how we're moving the ball. Maryland is clearly a good team and has some answers for us defensively but we're doing well being patient and creating decent looks.

It is very easy to call your representatives’ offices. They have to log your calls and the call numbers are meaningful. You don’t even have to try to convince anyone; just call and tell them your concerns. They are there to represent you. Let them know what that means. www.usa.gov/elected-offi...

If you’re in the US and you’d like to know what projects and vital services federal grants currently fund in your state, you can search here: www.usaspending.gov And you can find the contact information for your elected representatives here: www.usa.gov/elected-offi... They need to hear from you.
