Imagine if Mexico+China had invaded the US and taken most of California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas. Trump would cut a deal to let them keep it all, promise to take no more and recognise the "Gulf of America" name. He'd then celebrate that as a victory

Nice what AI lets you do these day. Like turning a forum comment into a song called "Recipe for a Hit App" suno.com/song/556b62f...

Pretty worried about Internetnz. Their multi-year drive to push out members and have employees control it has provoked a right wing takeover attempt Concerned this whole thing is going to be down to two choices, neither of which I like all that much

I find it funny that MongoDB is still defined by a 14 years old video and thus not taken seriously by much of the IT industry Top comment:

I joined InternetNZ last night because I've seen that the Free Speech Union has suddenly taken an interest and is trying to unbalance it in their favour. If you want to balance that out you might want to join too? I'm happy to fund if $$ are an issue! internetnz.nz/membership/

I did a writeup about the Everything Open 2025 conference in Adelaide I attended in January. Also added some thoughts about the conference and it's future. blog.darkmere.gen.nz/2025/02/ever...

Weird how otherwise rational people get very irrational when talking about Economics or IQ Seems to be the fashion that neither really exists or predicts anything Possibly a reaction against that heavy followers of both are often right-wing

New Zealand Internet pioneer David Dix has died lists.nznog.org/archives/lis...

When Americans say: "There is a new Sheriff in town" They forget we've all seen those TV shows and movies where the sheriff is a corrupt, racist bully who looks after the interests of the Town Boss That feels like new Sheriff we are getting

Someone said on LInkedin a company always gets back within a week I replied that according to my records they didn't get back to me Recruiter at company replies in minutes that I was called and since they have a proper app rather than an ad-hoc spreadsheet also certainly I was wrong. Oops

I've created a list of New Zealand Transit People on Bluesky bsky.app/profile/slya... Follow for pictures of Trains and and reasons why one more lane will not fix it Suggestions on people to add welcome.

Working in the office for a change at a desk with big screen. But it is so low my laptop screen blocks the bottom Back in the day we'd use a phonebook to raise it up higher

Got a "Hot Croiss-sant" yesterday. Was actually pretty nice

Phones are so locked down these days it is actually getting harder to sync files between my desktop and my phone So Dropbox's business case is actually starting to look better. I may actually be forced to just start using (and paying for) them again I'm Linux Desktop and Android so YMMV

Out of yoghurt so contemplating putting some protein shake on my muesli. Decided not to risk it

An interesting trailer for a strange looking movie: The Extraordinary Miss Flower. Part film, part theatre, part fever dream www.youtube.com/watch?v=mZhJ...

Everything I do gets stuck in the Loo 🎶🎵

I asked why New Zealand Urbanism and Transit Twitter doesn't want to move to Bluesky Too quiet and full of doomers are apparently the main reasons Some also like the algorithmic feed

Liked the story by Kelsey Hightower about how he was at Kubecon with NFL stars Larry Fitzgerald and Kelvin Beachum (he's advising their VC fund) and very few people recognised them People going up to Kelsey asking for a pic with him and asking the footballers to take it

@bernardchickey.bsky.social What happened to last week's "When the Facts Change" interview with Rowan Simpson?

Whenever you read an article about clothing not lasting or bins of it being shipped to the 3rd world it's always written by a woman and about women's clothing Meanwhile 95% of guys wear the same 10 items every week for years at a time & then replace with something identical when they wear out

Dark but funny

This company that sells little models of shops and streets that fit in your bookshelf alongside your books Look very cute byanavrin.com Appears they are mostly a reseller of other brands so it might be cheaper to go direct (but watch that shipping to NZ) everythingverysmall.com/anavrin-book...

A good example of Tech disruption is the effect Starlink is having on Internet access in remote areas Some signed long term monopoly contracts with more expensive providers previously. Illegal to switch to faster/cheap Starlink Falkland Islands: www.openfalklands.com/february-202...
