History teachers take note of this the next time you take your students (figuratively) to Salem for that lesson

It's not too early for K-12 principals, teachers and social studies leaders to think about their reaction to the messaging, lessons and materials that will be federally mandated as part of the 250th and the lessons, materials and readings that will be federally banned as well

Imagine watching the Twin Towers burning on a TV in a crowded office on 9/11. As you try to tell others what's happening, some tell you the buildings aren't really burning, others say that Manhattan needed to be redesigned anyway and some say they're avoiding bad news. That's what 2025 feels like

Everyone who knows what's happening should show this to that friend, coworker or family member who is "not following the news" because they'd rather ignore it.

"Now is not the time to be complacent. Now is the time to act"

This is an information war

Viewing Jan 6 as the failed Munich Putsch and the election as the appointment as Chancellor, the next thing on the list would be a crisis like the Reichstag fire. Sooner or later some event will serve as pretext to complete the takeover of government, announced as necessary for national security

Elementary Social Studies teachers were asking me how they should handle geographic naming mandated by Executive Orders, so I wrote my way through a response. There's no shortage of learning opportunities here. tinyurl.com/23rz7y6u

BFW Publishers uses a hell of a lot of packaging to overnight ship 64 page catalog I don't need, never asked for, and can see online. Yet even this repulsive waste doesn't match their sending of review copies (also not requested) to old district offices vacated a decade ago.

It's 12 noon EST. Have you called your congressional representative and senators yet? Have you sent an email? Wrote and sent a letter on paper? - Have you gotten in touch with five friends to do the same?

Has the NCSS responded to the Jan 29 executive orders attacking history education? @socialstudies.org

Certainly feeling this today.....

Hey NJDOE - now it's your turn

Share this message in every conversation you have with someone upset about the attacks on our system of government and the rule of law. While you're grading, researching or working on that paper you've been writing, make the call, listen to the musak on-hold music for a while then state your case

Hello NYTimes - it may be "his administration", but it most certainly is not "his government".

If you’re in the US and you’d like to know what projects and vital services federal grants currently fund in your state, you can search here: www.usaspending.gov And you can find the contact information for your elected representatives here: www.usa.gov/elected-offi... They need to hear from you.

This is how the NYTimes enables authoritarianism. Did the authors and editors of the the NYTimes even consider putting a qualifying word in front of "fired"?

Social Studies teachers should see the lesson plan here, easily customized to fit in 4th/5th grade or middle and high school. Combine it with the USGS Domestic Names index tinyurl.com/26vlqrfu to see dozens of examples. How is "naming" amount to "claiming"? Does it shape identity and narrative?

Still hacking away at research for information literacy presentation and came across Sweden's Psychological Defense Agency. "They want people in Sweden to feel worried, come into conflict with each other and feel that Sweden is a bad country to live in" Sound familiar? tinyurl.com/2ytmwvho
