Man Wouldn’t Have Taken Promotion In Work If He Knew It Meant More Work

Got home at half two. Spent most of the following 6.5 hours watching the whole of the 1979 BBC adaptation of Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. Worth every slow, glorious, beautifully-acted minute.

The 21st century: hospitals should be cheerful, unthreatening places, which promote a calm and nurturing frame of mind. The 19th century: you what? Nah - shouting “GET WELL, YOU LOT!” and looming like a Gothic castle has always been our style.

Ugh, Piero della Francesca sliding into my DMs again with his unsolicited diptychs.

Has anyone managed to count the number of dildos and potential dildos in The Garden of Earthly Delights? I made a start, but my calculator blew up.

On the Banana Line.

Just bought some second-hand DVDs, featuring John Lennon, Jasper Carrott, and Bananaman. Now there’s a Glastonbury-headlining power trio.

Tim Radford, the great science editor of the Guardian (and so much more besides) has left us. To my shame I had never before seen his 25 commandments for aspiring journalists. They are very good indeed and worth your time. And curiously haven't aged. www.theguardian.com/science/blog...

The bit where they finally catch up with the whale and it just looks at them and says this

More from Scarfolk. About all they missed was the baseball cap.

Reading the Scarfolk Annual 197x, which is much as you would expect. This page seems especially apposite for mid February.

VLADIMIR: Well? Shall we log off? ESTRAGON: Yes, let's log off. They do not log off.

Yes, of course WhatsApp messages are all about “working people”. However, surely you meant “hard-working people”, or preferably “hard-working families”? After all, they’re what gives newspaper editors the horn.

Get as much joy as you can out of life. Really. It won’t be around forever, it won’t all be good, and you never know when the bad shit will come, or if it will go. So seriously, wring all the joy you can out of what’s here. Do it soon.

Just watched Blade Runner, which remains the most beautiful of all dystopias. Actually, given how things are at present, an opportunity to go back to 2019 and begin again in the Off-World Colonies sounds pretty good.

Given I was already struggling today with the weather, I could really have done without the one plan I had evolved for the day being stymied by an crap website with a doom-loop ordering system (add ticket to basket, get sent email link, click link, be told basket is empty with no way to fill it)

Been a really dull day, so I’m nipping out for a pint. It’s only a quick stroll across the moors.

Cats gonna cat. 9th century jug, found hear Indonesia.

I expect to spend most of my time on Following, because one thing I hate, and which is actually much rarer Elsewhere now, is “look, it’s a picture of a Horrible Person! And me telling you why they’re Horrible! Stand by for more Horrible People Content!”. If Discover is mostly that, they can keep it.

I’m here because one too many posts from random accounts I follow Elsewhere turned out to be linked to or replied on by “life was great before the modern works / Labour / immigration” people, and I decided it was time to dip a toe in here.

Oh alright, I’m here. Finally. Now, how does this “people” thing work again?
