I just subscribed to the new pod Not Right Now. Perked up at "a podcast about parenting through (waves hands) all of this," smashed subscribe after hearing several fucks and @quinnemmett.bsky.social saying "maybe you have just one kid and you love them more than, for example, I do all 3 of mine" πŸ’€

@justthezooofus.bsky.social My one albatross reference is The Rescuers (Down Under, idk why the sequel was the one we had growing up). Albatrosses Orville & Wilbur run the Albatross Air Service, which flies the little mouse protagonists around. This scene is deep in there youtu.be/G1VBEU4Q8WU?...

Something fun I just learned: The screenwriter for Miss Congeniality didn't like the original music they had for the pageant anthem, so he asked his 5 year old son to write a new one. The producers unknowingly chose it for the film. You can hear it in this clip: youtu.be/Kf0tmg27pWA?...

Question for the hivemind: If I want warm water to come out of a tap like this, will it warm up faster if I turn it all the way to hot, or will it take the same amount of time if I turn it to the medium temperature I'm looking for? Husband thinks it's the first one, but I'm questioning

@tracedominguez.com hi trace!!!

Most succinct fact-check I've read of how LA Fire Dept's budget wasn't recently cut -- in fact, the opposite -- from @politico.com. But that misinformation spread anyway. www.politico.com/news/2025/01...

Something genuinely magical. Preservation of the inner shell nacre, or mother of pearl, on ~195 million year old ammonite πŸ¦ͺ

Milk spot on the boob of my matching reindeer PJs, merry newborn Christmas

My childhood au pair is visiting from Austria in a few days and because I want to share the best of US culture I'm taking her to Cracker Barrel

By "a ring," does the narrator of Santa Baby mean she wants Santa to pop the question? Seems like a pretty boring ask to end the song with otherwise.

tbh I'm not posting much here because the level of discourse is high and newborn sleep has turned my brain to soup. but I'm enjoying all the smart people

πŸ”† Good morning! Kiss me you fool... Nobody knows when kissing emerged among humans. But the practice of plopping one's mouth on another human, whether in friendship or love, is not universal. The evolutionary origin of human kissing 🏺πŸ§ͺ onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/...

I just hit the episode from which @eve6.bsky.social got their name. Utter 90s bliss over here

Annual reminder to parents with kids music in their Spotify Wrapped that you can put it all in a playlist and then hit the three dots and choose "Exclude from Taste Profile." I had zero Ms. Rachel songs in my Wrapped this year.

sorry am I supposed to think Mulder is a massive idiot or am I watching this wrong

Let the maternity leave binge begin

I just got followed by a ton of podcasters, which is awesome. Am I on a starter pack?! Clearsky is down so I can't check. Even if I'm not I definitely want a podcaster starter pack, if anyone's got one.

Asheville is so proud of the Biltmore that there are at least three neighborhoods named after it -- Biltmore Park, Biltmore Village, Biltmore Forest -- all of which are far enough away from each other that any confusion will cost you 20-30 minutes in drive time

I just finished #ZeldaEchoesofWisdom and GOD DAMN CAN WE TALK ABOUT HOW DISAPPOINTING THAT FINAL BOSS IS

terrible time to try and start a new social media habit and populate a new feed with witty posts when my entire brain is taken up by this thing

Had a baby! Everyone is healthy, everything went so smoothly. Already home from the hospital.

My hometown of Eureka, CA has a main street with a name that's a special trap for people who aren't from there. Buhne. Pronounced...wait for it..."booner."

just finished and submitted a freelance podcast project 4 days before I'm due to have a baby. i was not sure that was gonna happen but i pulled it off (now let's please pull this baby out)

honestly "your body, my choice" is such sophomoric little boy behavior, the thing boys say because they want to see what will happen if they do. it's the kind of thing a boy says before his mom grabs him by the ear and takes him outside for a stern talking to, after which he never does it again.

as much as I fear for her future, hanging out with my toddler is absolutely a salve for my soul right now.

I'm not even a New Yorker but the screenshots of bluesky posts about Eric Adams on other platforms is making me want to use bluesky more

It's incredible what a toddler can do with a limited vocabulary. My kid only knows "hot" and "cold," but hot coffee, sour kiwi, and carbonation are all "hot," which I honestly can't argue with
