I’m reading FEEDING GHOSTS by Tessa Hulls right now and am feeling very raw. The generational trauma trinity is something I continue to struggle with after my mom’s passing. Tessa really has a way of giving shape to the strange ongoing unspoken dread of filial grief. Also the art is INCREDIBLE.

Last night a pipe burst in my studio. The plumber today said it was bc of bad plumbing installation; the maintenance guy blamed me for hanging 1lb of silk flowers on the suspended pipe. I pointed out to the plumber that maybe he could also fix the sewage pipe on the wall being held up with rocks.

This week I have a grant to submit for PCF, a medical procedure that I have to be anesthetized for, a lanyard design to get off to the local library association, and a 376-page MS to finish editing + a graphic design class is visiting my studio twice & I have to take my kiddo to & from school.

And so it continues. Iowa state legislature is trying to shove through a bill that strips protections from librarians & makes them criminally liable for allowing "obscene" books on the shelves. The cause here is rightwingers are enraged about Maia Kobabe's GN "Gender Queer." Librarians defend it.

Kiddo has been sick for 2 days. He’s been sleeping in my lap most of that time & is doing so now. He rallied & suddenly really wanted ramen & kept it down. But in the middle of eating he put down his spoon & hugged me close for five straight minutes, in silence, then went on eating. It was poetry.

We went to WPG Pet Rescue yesterday to look at kitties (and assess kiddos allergies which seem to have improved dramatically?) I read out all of the kitty stories to him. “Oh wow THIS ONE needs a home too! They ALL DO. Guess we have to get them all.” 🤷‍♀️ I don’t make the rules.

Three generations clawed our way up and down Waimea Canyon yesterday, the Grand Canyon of the Hawai’ian islands. Over 1000 ft of ascent & descent. The 4yo did amazingly & had energy to spare after 3hrs.
