A 6ft-tall Pictish stone was discovered by Moray man Wayne Miles near Elgin #OTD in 2019. It had been discarded by workers constructing the Barmuckity Business Park, and bears the symbols a notched rectangle and Z-rod beneath an eagle.

Brigit 1st February The planet Venus hangs over the waxing crescent moon. Today is Imbolc a pre-christian feast day, it is also the feast day of St. Brigid. The saint is thought to be a christianised version of the Celtic goddess Brigid who may also be Brigantia. In 1985 NASA named a Tholus (a…

I see Tom Rowsell (AKA Survive the Jive) is rebranding himself as the cosy face of English #paganism. He's got a @hopenothate.org.uk file for a reason - much as he comes across as educated, he isn't & underpinning his output is far right ideology. #Archaeology #Pagan unherd.com/2024/04/brit...

One of my favourite local stones, the little known and rarely visited Busco Beck stone. North York Moors. #StandingStoneSunday #northyorkmoors

In October, I had a very long chat with Alan Moore. On magick, sci-fi, the perils of ecological doomerism, the joy of occultist pranks, the psychogeography of Stoke Newington, the invention of the taser - and much more! As a Christmas treat here it is IN FULL. seamas.medium.com/its-a-rabbit...

Good morning all. Here’s my last Diary of the year from the vast-horizon-viewpoint of Aldro Bronze Age enclosure. A place thick with meaning, if you’re willing to trespass a little. It’s one of 5500+ of scheduled ancient monuments with no right of public access. 🧵 www.theguardian.com/environment/...

Boundaries, Borders & the Tees-Exe Line Every once in a while I encounter a debate on where the North of England starts. Many people have an opinion but there is often little agreement on the precise location of the boundary. I suppose it is probably relative to where a person is born and lives,…

Two standing stones on John Cross Rigg, North Yorks. The larger of the two is called The Old Wife’s Neck. The Old Wife is a folkloric figure, her name is associated with many sites particularly in the north. She is also as Carlin, Kerling, Calli, Calleach, Callich. #StandingStoneSunday

Found this lovely gift from a friend on my doorstep this morning.
