Op 3 mei 1942 werd in Nederland de jodenster verplicht gesteld voor alle Joden van 6 jaar en ouder. Elke Jood moest er 4 kopen. Zeer vernederend, ze betaalden zo voor hun eigen vervolging. De 569.355 sterren werden geproduceerd in een Enschedese fabriek, die van een Joodse familie werd gevorderd.

Zo is er een dramatisch verhaal over twee jonge mannen, zwagers, die vers uit hun onderduikadres, op Bevrijdingsdag in Nijmegen door een Amerikaanse tank werden overreden, en gedood. Zij lieten twee gezinnen achter in nog niet bevrijd gebied. Maanden later werd hun dood bekend. Verzwegen verdriet.
