Bullying a guy whose country has been bravely fighting not just for his country but against invasion from a malign force for all of Europe. They ambushed someone suffering trauma, kicked and punched him and threatened to leave him to the mercy of a brutal dictator. They showed their true colours.

Unbelievable. Donald Trump has been invited to a state visit to the UK. We should not be rolling out the red carpet to celebrate this man. Agree? Add your name to the petition today: you.38degrees.org.uk/petitions/no...

You can own the billionaires. You can fiddle social media algorithms. You can sit in the President’s chair. You can lie & truth twist as much as you like. But when you’re a bullying criminal coward sat next to a true hero and a statesman - who you really are is obvious.

Dear Prime Minister: in light of Trump’s disgraceful bullying of Zelensky today, can you please, please, please cancel the State Visit? A boor like Trump does NOT deserve to be honored by the British state.

I don’t think I’ve ever witnessed live the leader of a democratic country in wartime being bullied live by the President & Vice President of the USA. Venal, partisan and disgusting. #standwithUkraine

NEW: Mass layoffs began today at NOAA. Workers were fired by email at the agency which runs the National Weather Service, National Hurricane Centre & Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre. Services are already shutting down. The most dangerous regime in the world for US citizens is now their own.

King Charles has invited Donald Trump to Scotland. I have a better suggestion. No King Charles and no visit from Donald Trump.

Who’s got the Trump blimp? Assuring all those resisting in the US, and citizens of Canada, Mexico and Denmark - we will exercise our free speech & right to protest when the State visit happens #resist

Beavers for growth. “Defra is understood to have made representations to Downing Street that beavers could be part of Labour’s growth mission, as the rodents work for free to build infrastructure and restore nature. The industrious animals recently saved the Czech government £1m by building a dam”

🚨BREAKING - Steve Reed has just launched the biggest review into the water sector since privatisation. But wait…..he says the commission can’t even consider public ownership. 🤯 We need to act quickly to change his mind. ⏰ Sign our petition now ✍️ weownit.org.uk/act-now/stev...

UK Govt socialism works try it soon. “Throughout history, migration has been one of the great drivers of the development of nations, while hatred and xenophobia have been – and continue to be – the greatest destroyer of nations. The key is in managing it well.” www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

I just signed the petition calling on the PM not to cut support for the world’s poorest to pay for more defence spending - tax the ultra rich instead! Can you sign too? 38d.gs/r8zh

🚨NEW: Ofgem price cap raises by 6.4%, meaning customers will pay £111 more on average (per year) on energy bills. Higher energy costs aren’t just due to rising gas prices. Companies are exploiting our dysfunctional energy system for profit. Here’s how they do it. 🧵

There are alternatives to cutting aid. Tax Justice UK say that a 2% tax on ppl with £10m + of assets could raise £24 billion pa, and only affect 0.04% of population. You punched down instead. It might be “popular” but that doesn’t make it right. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

France has now introduced a wealth tax, Spain has had one for a while. UK Govt it’s time for one here. Tax Justice UK estimates that a 2% tax on ppl with £10m + of assets could raise £24 billion pa, and only affect 0.04% of the population. Do it. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Exactly this. Rejoin and re-build. “In a continent that is losing the security we relied on all our lives, trade disputes become a trivial quibble, Brexit an irrelevance. …. Starmer ought to seize the chance, and abandon Labour’s fears of Brexiters” #fbpe www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Tomorrow will mark three years since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine. A day that will forever live in infamy. Today we’re hoisting the Ukrainian flag at our headquarters. It is flying high and proud at the heart of Europe. Where it belongs.

An excellent thought for the day from Professor Brian Cox...

“When fascism begins to creep in around us…. Trusting your instincts, naming the threat and sharing your fears isn't just cathartic - it's empowering. It might even save your life.” No excuses. No equivocation. We call it what it is. And them what they are. Very good letters in @theguardian.com

“The average annual wage in the businesses – £43,000 – was also £5,600 higher than the national average” #eastbourne with lower than UK average wages, would benefit from more solar/wind power renewable energy locally. More community energy projects! www.theguardian.com/environment/...

Nous sommes tous Gaullistes maintenant.

My thesis here is that it’s presumptuous and deluded to claim UK can still be “bridge” between US/EU. Real task is to avoid burning bridges w either. But, balance moving decidedly towards weaning ourselves off US dependency, and moving closer to EU, as US interests/values diverge from ours.

ICONIC: Yosemite National Park workers just hung an upside-down American flag—THOUSANDS of feet up on El Capitan. That’s not decoration. That’s a distress signal. They’re telling us the country is in danger. Are you paying attention? www.sfchronicle.com/outdoors/art...

History’s lessons need to be uppermost in Keir Starmer’s mind when he meets Trump later this week. “The problem was that they were not willing to pay the price either of peace or war, and so they got both” George Orwell on Chamberlain’s appeasement of Hitler. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

The author reminds us of “the “smoky room experiment”. In this study, when a person is alone in a room that begins to fill with smoke, three-quarters raise the alarm within minutes. Yet, when surrounded by others who remain passive, only 10% take action. This is the “bystander effect”,

Our position on youth mobility: "Today’s news on youth mobility is a big win, with the British government finally prepared to negotiate a scheme with the EU. There are many flaws in the reported UK counter-proposal... However, making any proposal means that negotiations can finally open."

We may have left the EU in 2016 after lies, misinformation, and promises of prosperity that have not materialised Luckily for us, the EU isn't that far away, it's just next door Anyone else want the UK 🇬🇧 to rejoin the EU 🇪🇺 ?

In this crazy, unstable and dangerous world it is utter madness to remain out of the EU. #RejoinEU #Rejoin

30 councils get ‘exceptional financial support’ including #eastbourne Council which has agreement in principle for £2million (which along with Worthing) is one of the lowest payments. Helpful but meagre. Instead of bringing forward the Town Fund into this year? www.gov.uk/guidance/exc...

Trump proving beyond a doubt he is working for Russia, is now openly attacking Zelenskyy and Ukraine after failing to blackmail them for trillions of dollars. Everyday Trump is president is a 100 years of shame and embarrassment for the United States.

Yes, thank you @eddavey.libdems.org.uk @uklabour.bsky.social where’s our PM, or Foreign Secretary’s leadership in responding to this? #standup

This & YouGov's poll showing Brits give Zelenskyy +48 & Trump a -51 approval shows dangers to the right in UK of listening to the v. online/US coded in their approach to Ukraine. Brits really support Ukraine & aren't polarised on it. 52% of Reform voters entirely blame Russia

The UK needs to steer away from, not lean into xenophobia. Celebrate and tell the stories of success, integration and joy that immigration brings. Towns like #eastbourne would not have a tourism sector, healthcare or NHS service without them. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

"Anti-migrant politics will not build a single house, staff a single hospital or raise anyone’s wages. Instead, by echoing its rhetoric, the government is simply fuelling the rise of Reform UK" Well done to these Labour MPs, trade unionists, and members. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

The risks are real for Europe and the UK and no-one can now rely on or trust the United Snakes. This should wash away Labour's red-lines and EU membership becomes the obvious choice. Form a European army, borrow if we need to and boost the armed forces. Otherwise, start learning Russian! #Starmer

100% correct. Outrageous, deluded presumption and conceit for No 10 to claim that UK can still act as some sort of “bridge” between US and Europe. This is also where rubber hits the road for UK. Decision time. Are we European - as values, geography and economics suggest, or forever American poodles?

Poland's Prime Minister Donald Tusk: "Europe urgently needs its own plan of action concerning Ukraine and our security, or else other global players will decide about our future. Not necessarily in line with our own interest. This plan must be prepared now. There's no time to lose."

Solar can make a big dent in fuel poverty for lower income households. On average, a solar panel would get suitable fuel poor households over halfway towards the reduction in energy spending they need to move out of fuel poverty. Read our latest analysis to learn more ⤵️ https://buff.ly/4hyzAB7

"There is a huge push for 1.5 million new homes, with little consideration as to where they are built, or updating building regulations to ensure that houses are built to be flood resilient." @floodmary.bsky.social pulls no punches in this brilliant blog 👇🏾 floodmary.com/2025/02/10/b...

It is possible to strike a blow: firm has to shut down database where they compiled personal details on high profile opponents of pesticide use - including home addresses, phone numbers, family members - after journalists' investigation provokes public outcry. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

Mexico's president Sheinbaum signed a decree declaring February 14 as the Memorial day for General Vicente Guerrero, the first Afro-Mexican president, who is notable for abolishing slavery on September 15, 1829 which led to the US invasion of 1846 backing US occupiers that refused to comply.

In all this furore remember to breathe. Listen to the waves. The sun rises & sets, the tide comes in & goes out. The moon waxes & wanes. Calmness is resistance. #eastbourne
