At this point it's not really efficient to argue what the proper American ideal is. The pressing motto of the hour is not "This is/isn't what the country should be" but rather "If we don't get better than this everyone will die."

I think the reason why US fascism ended up in the form of Trump is because American culture is by its nature unfit for a monarchy. There simply isn't a place for a king in America, and when he tries to become one it ended up aesthetically disastrous.
