In flower in the garden this morning. #fairviewyearround

Narcissus ‘Van Sion’ enjoying the sunshine. #fairviewyearround

An attractive dark-leafed selection of Anemone nemorosa that I made many years ago when I held the National Collection. The leaves gradually turn greener after flowering. #fairviewyearround

So pleased that Caltha ‘Moonshine’ is thriving by the pond. It is a cross between C.leptosepala and C.palustris var. palustris raised by the defunct Rumbling Bridge Nursery in Kinross. Does anyone in the UK grow the orange/red flowered C.palustris var. barthei?#fairviewyearround

It certainly feels more like Spring in the garden. Erythronium revolutum, Leucojum aestivum and Lunaria annua ‘Corfu Blue’ all looking lovely. #fairviewyearround

Saxifraga x irvingii ‘Jenkinsiae’, a well-known and easy ‘kabschia’ saxifrage flowering in a stone trough. #fairviewyearround

Corydalis solida forms seeding about and my last snowdrop of the season, a late form of Galanthus ikariae. #fairviewyearround

A few toothworts in flower at the moment. Cardamine quinquefolia is usually the first to flower, followed by C.glanduligera. C.pentaphyllos and the lovely, pale yellow C.enneaphyllos follow these. Several other species will also be in flower in the coming weeks. #fairviewyearround

I quite like this hellebore seedling in the rose beds. #fairviewyearround

The annual treat that is Corydalis solida self-seeding in the woodland borders. #fairviewyearround

Another park run yesterday and 31 seconds quicker than last week (and didn’t I know it), at this rate, watch out Sir Mo.

The snowdrops have now finished on the roadside verge, but daffodils have taken over, other bulbs are starting to flower too. The hellebores are looking good, but a few were badly damaged by the January cold snap (I hope it’s nothing more sinister). #fairviewyearround #fairviewverge

Another project, both a boundary and retaining wall to repair around this steep woodland border and steps to improve, but at least there will be a circular route around the garden. #fairviewyearround

The new vegetable garden at The Good Shepherd Centre in Keighley built by Craven College horticulture students.

The hepaticas on the small log shed roof are beginning to flower, although I’m sure I planted some that weren’t blue. #fairviewyearround

Primula marginata ‘Barbara Clough’ in a stone trough. #fairviewyearround

The Corydalis beds are starting to show some colour, sadly a short-lived spectacle. #fairviewyearround

Helonias (Ypsilandra) thibetica in the stumpery alongside emerging erythroniums. The flowers take on lovely pink tinges as they age. #fairviewyearround

Galanthus ‘Fieldgate Superb’ is well named, a large-flowered, late cultivar from Colin Mason that is still looking good, I just wish I had a bigger clump. #fairviewyearround

The rather lovely Scilla x allenii, not sure if this is the cultivar ‘Fra Angelico’ or not. No longer considered a bigeneric hybrid now that Chionodoxa has been subsumed into Scilla. #fairviewyearround

Second Park Run of the year. 2 mins 20 secs quicker than last week.

Our practical horticulture students at Ripon Walled Garden pruned back the willows and dogwoods today. The prunings will be repurposed by Ripon Community Link members for craft projects. Craven College Ripon Evolve

If you thought the snowdrop season had all but finished, this Galanthus ikariae clone failed to get the memo. Every year it starts flowering in mid March and continues into April. #fairviewyearround

Our RHS horticulture students pruning roses and tidying the borders at the Diamond Jubilee Community Rose Garden in Skipton on Monday. Craven College

Our Keighley practical horticulture group carrying out pruning of top fruit at Redcliffe Community Orchard last week. Thanks to Fruit Works for the contact. Craven College

Farmers and vets are proud that we have some of the highest animal welfare and environmental standards in the world. We should not undermine these standards in trade deals. It would be bad for animal welfare, bad for our environment, and bad for British Agriculture. youtu.be/FwzvI8H_ZDE?...

Daphne bholua still looking good despite some frost damage earlier in the year. #fairviewyearround

A large pot of Scilla greilhuberi in the alpine house, not the neatest of scillas, but a good doer. #fairviewyearround

UK Government has halted SFI applications, cutting off support for nature-friendly farming in England. ❌🍃 Farmers need certainty, not funding that’s switched on & off. Pulling the rug from under them erodes trust, disrupts farming, and stalls critical progress on nature & climate.

The roadside verge and hellebore corner. Quite a few hellebores were caught by the severe frosts we had earlier in the year. #fairviewyearround

This handsome male chaffinch can see his reflection in the door handle and clearly thinks it’s a rival. His foot has scaly lesions which can be caused, I believe, by a virus or mites and is a common problem with chaffinches.

The first of the Corydalis solida is in flower and nearby Sanicula (Hacquetia) epipactis ‘Thor’. #fairviewyearround

Some of the later snowdrops enjoying the sunshine this weekend. ‘E.A.Bowles’, ‘Polar Bear’, ‘Marjorie Brown’, ‘Ransome’s Late’. #fairviewyearround

Some of the later snowdrops enjoying the sunshine this weekend. ‘Fieldgate Tiffany’, ‘Josie’, ‘Trym’, ‘Belvedere Gold’. #fairviewyearround

My neighbour’s pond is full of frogs this year.

In the alpine house today, Crocus veluchensis, Scilla messeniaca and Hepatica ‘Hazelwood Froggie’. #fairviewyearround

I wondered where all the frogs in my pond had disappeared to this year and then looked over the wall into my neighbour’s field.

Pruning finally completed in the soft fruit garden with Ripon Evolve students at Ripon Walled Garden.

Arborists at Ripon Walled Garden taking down dangerous ash trees.

First Park Run of the year for me, at Fountains Abbey, surely the most scenic venue for this fabulous activity. Before and after pictures included.

Ribes laurifolium, full of flower and competing with the spring bulbs for attention. #fairviewyearround

A couple of beauties that are slowly spreading around the pond, Narcissus cyclamineus and Leucojum vernum. #fairviewyearround

Galanthus ikariae seeding about under a plum tree. One or two have faint green tips, something I hadn’t noticed before. #fairviewyearround
