Thoughts with everyone connected with this search. Difficult conditions and fading hope will be taking its toll on searchers and family. Runners- esp female ones, holding our breath and grateful that you are out there looking. 🙏

It's taken just a month for the Republican administration to trash eight decades of US leadership in science and technology. TRIGGER WARNING: reading this article (by my esteemed colleagues, who have stronger stomachs than I do) made me feel physically ill. www.nature.com/articles/d41...

BGS is looking for new members to join our NERC Facilities Steering Committees over the next 4 years. We are looking for people from a wide range of scientific disciplines, at different career stages. Deadline for submissions is 5pm on March 14th 2025. www.bgs.ac.uk/news/call-fo...

Why do we think of beavers not beetles when it comes to rewilding? 🪲 The @guardian is running a competition to celebrate your favourite creepy crawlies and all their hard work! ‼️Closes 4th March! Find more info here: buff.ly/3F0hWaM #rewilding #InvertebrateOfTheYear

Thank goodness for gannets! 🥰

This exactly. The whole thing is horrendous for any sane person's mental health. Also, grappling with fear that I may live to find out what kind of person I would have been if I'd been alive during WWII. We all like to think we'd have defended democracy and human rights. Soon we may find out.

Been stuck on the mainland with a combination of van trouble and ferry trouble. Morrisons surprisingly excellent all-day veggie breakfast has been the highlight of my day. 🍳🫘🥑🍞🍅 Pretending that's not butter #lactoseintolerant

Mountain Rescue teams see dozens of cases of hypothermia each year. How much do you really know about avoiding it? This quiz devised by the pros at Mountaineering Scotland guides you through a pitfall-packed winter day. Can you emerge toasty & triumphant?

Yesterday we wrapped up an excellent winter skills week in the Cairngorms for Adventure Expeditions. I love sharing the mountains, especially with young people. The conditions threw us a few curveballs- but often that's where the learning is! #ThinkWINTER

They are the unsung heroes of the planet – the silent majority, the innovators, the grafters, our overlooked friends and protectors ... Now you can nominate your favourite spineless species for the @theguardian.com's Invertebrate of the Year competition! www.theguardian.com/environment/...

Email from US based marketing manager for a premium tent brand, asking me if the tent I'd like to test for TGO magazine is for above the treeline or below. ⛺️🌲🌲🌲 Not sure he was expecting a full paragraph about the history of deforestation, wolf eradication and our crazy maritime climate 😅.

Welcome comments from @naturescot.bsky.social chair Prof Colin Galbraith.⤵️ He wants Scottish access rights to "continue to thrive & that their use helps tackle the climate emergency by promoting a deeper connection to nature while encouraging everyone to care for Scotland's extraordinary outdoors.”

Having fun with my nightly Greek lessons, for no practical reason whatsoever. Even in these crazy times, it’s worth it to learn things simply for the joy of learning.

A little bit of February optimism 🌱 #Springiscoming #Garden

Looking forward to it! (Meeting with and training future leaders is my favourite thing to do).

I just wrote a quick bit about 'genuinely contributing.' (This time with a working link) mrhenrymorris.substack.com/p/genuinely-...

Save Ardrossan Harbour! While Peel Ports & the Scottish Government bicker over who foots the bill for restoring/upgrading the harbour, the communities of Arran & Ardrossan are in limbo. Troon is rubbish for foot passengers, hospital visits & day trips to the mainland. tinyurl.com/Save-Ardrossan

King Scallops Pecten, maximus numbers increased by 353% between 2010 & 2022 in the Lamlash No Take Zone. The recovering complexity of the seabed now gives ideal habitat to Juvenile Cod, Gadus morhua

A cold wind and with icy snow underfoot today, but worth it for the fantastic views! To Lismore & Mull and over Loch Etive. Sadly not a day for lingering. ☀️❄️ On Creach Bheinn, a Corbett above Glen Creran.

A question for anyone with experience of domestic renewable electricity generation: I'd put some solar (PV) panels on the south-facing roof of my house but for the fact that here in Beara we get extremely violent storms, and I don't want to increase the risk of damage or leakage to the roof... (1)

Another gorgeous morning dog walk from Torbreck. A frosty start, but stunning views over Uath Lochan towards Sgor Gaoith. #walking #hiking #rambling #scotland #cairngorms #cairngormsnationalpark #dogsogbluesky www.grahamuneymountaineering.co.uk

Confess I have bought some new, new kit (ref earlier posts), as have invested in some canicross gear for Nuis and me. This means we can run together from the house, so, less travelling, and more time for fun. Not sure if the CO2 balances out but it's definitely a win for spontaneous adventures.

Love this. Action inspires action and so it continues… #HowWeSpeakOut #HowWeKitUp We are developing our website to include links to resources etc for kit repairs etc. Watch this space. Meanwhile check out Repair What You Wear on YouTube. Fix leggings, T-shirts, trainers. youtu.be/xUXuFatFQZE?...

Update on my sad worn out running shoes. Inspired by Allie Bailey and the @thegreenrunners.bsky.social I've found a 2nd hand identical pair online- now ordered. When they arrive I'm going to send the sad ones away for a resole. That means I'll get two pairs for less than the price of 1. Winning!

Absolutely brilliant and admirable. It comes as I'm trying to decide about whether to buy a new pair of La Sportiva daps (Akasha 2s). They've only done 500km and the tread is wearing flat, and they are losing grip on steeper trails. I love them. They are super comfortable. Can they be resoled? 😟

Such a crazy world these days, so it was good to have a Pentlands day with pals and get away from the news. Rather wet circular route from Carlops via East Cairn Hill and the Cauldstane Slap. Sunshine, wind - and even snow, feeling properly tired now. @ramblersscotland.bsky.social

Word of the Day is ‘bayard’ (16th century): one who has the supreme self-confidence of ignorance.

I was posting about the Keeling Curve and Mauna Loa when the station recently announced "the biggest jump in atmospheric CO2 ever recorded". All records gone for now... Terrifying fascism in the US

Glorious morning to do beach and dig holes. First sounds of wooing eiders in the bay. #Arran #SpringIsComing #Beach
