I spent hours working on a new surface pattern design. Got it to around a third of the way done and it wasn't sitting right with me. Today I went out and took some photos for general reference and stumbled across an even better subject than my original idea. Funny how inspiration finds a way.

Three pieces to get to know me:

It's fun to watch people's videos on their digital art process and see what they prefer. There's no right or wrong answer, but for instance when I see someone putting everything on one layer I get so nervous. I need my elements separate! What if I make a mistake????

I've been enjoying Workshop Week. It's been helping get my creative flow going. This is based on Gia Graham's lesson. I used her layout template and suggested Procreate brushes, but my own color palette and method of doing light and shadow. #Botanical #Flowers #FloralArt #Art #ProcreateArtist 🎨

🌈 Happy #KidlitArtPostcardDay & Pride month! I would love to keep illustrating heartfelt, diverse, & empowering picture books, chapter books, and MG/YA covers--especially stories w queer/BIPOC joy! 💜Proudly rep'ed by @jemiscoe.bsky.social at @andreabrownlit.bsky.social 💻 www.michellejingchan.com

I'm not saying I'm slow to catch on to things but for months now I thought I lost my touch with being able to draw in Procreate and it turns out my Apple pencil just needed a new tip.

Happy Pride month, all! Way back in 2018 I made these galaxy pride flags. They were shared many thousands of times, featured on Vice, and even made their way onto book covers and into video games. Here are the original ones I created (in no particular order!) so Bluesky can have them too. 💙

Really enjoying this year's Workshop Week. It's helping fuel some inspiration and fan the embers of my ability to do art right now.

My Blossoming Silhouette print is now available as mugs, phone cases, and the popular tote bags! In addition, you can buy the print in multiple colors now in my Spoonflower shop. All options available here: lnk.bio/snowirisstudio #Botanical #SurfacePattern #Art #ProcreateArtist #BSNM 🎨

Is anyone out there using #Pixelfed? Should I be using it? I'm reluctant to add another account into the mix but then again I once thought Bluesky wouldn't be needed either.

Didn't win, didn't expect to. But on the plus side now I can upload different color options and add it to my main store as well. Tote bags are coming!

My blue-eyed grass pattern is now available in my art shop! Available on the ever popular tote bags, as well as mugs, phone cases, notebooks, and more. Check it out via the link in my bio. #Botanical #SmallBusiness #BSNM #Art 🎨

I suppose I should add some pictures... Free shipping and orders over $30 at inPRNT.

My entry for the @spoonflower-social.bsky.social Floral Block challenge. I had fun coming up with a design that has sneaky petals in it when you see how the leaves come together. I'll have this available in other colors once the contest is over. #Botanical #SurfacePattern #Art #ProcreateArtist 🎨

FORWARD, NOBLE STEED #art #capybara #tortoise

I didn't win anything, but I learned new techniques and quite a few people favorited the design, so I'm calling that a personal victory.

Oh, it's #PortfolioDay? Cool! Okay, here's some of mine then. #Art #Flowers #Botanical #Procreate 🎨

I thought it might be fun to do a comparison with the new style I've been trying. So I took the same base sketch and similar colors for the purple iris and did it again in my normal style. It was a fun challenge to see how it'd come out. #Botanical #Flowers #FloralArt #Art #ProcreateArtist 🎨

US friends, consider getting artwork from foreign artists soon. The exemption on tariffs for orders under $800 will be ending for all countries as soon as logistics are set up to do so. We’ll be paying the tariffs on our end via customs charges. Post a foreign artist u like!

If you're not creating because you feel like it's too late for you: that feeling won't go away in 5 years, 10 years, or even 20 years. It will feel worse with each passing day. Unless you begin. It's never too late. You have time. Start now.

Was able to take great reference photos of a magnolia tree this morning. Can't wait to turn them into drawings.

If you see this quote the post with your yellow art!

Seeing a fellow artist use that AI abomination of a Ghibli filter at all, let alone with a "Don't get mad, I was bored!" comment like that excuses stealing from your fellow artists is so disappointing.

hear hear

Took my first flower reference photos of the season. Wild buttercups are blooming. I did a surface pattern inspired by them last year. I think I might try doing another with them. They're such cheerful flowers, plus it'll be a nice comparison for all the progress I've made.

Playing around with a different style. This won't replace my regular but it is something I can see myself using more in surface patterns. Of course I had to do it with an iris flower. #Botanical #Flowers #FloralArt #Art #ProcreateArtist 🎨

I entered the @spoonflower-social.bsky.social Bold Floral design challenge! I decided to go with a New Orleans flair, drawing blue-eyed grass flowers in Mardi Gras colors. I learned new techniques putting this together so I'm calling that a win. #Botanical #SurfacePattern #Art #ProcreateArtist 🎨

On the one hand I've figured out a different style of art that I'm having fun experimenting with. On the other hand it takes so much longer to make a picture omg.
