Abel Selacoe is one of the most electric and innovative musicians to come out of Africa. You have never heard the cello played like this. If you ever get a chance to see him live make sure you go. youtu.be/GhY31ngpnWg?...

What comes after late-stage capitalism? 🤔

thinking of the mainly older white male membership of the @royalsociety.org's key decision-making Council today, deciding if they should remain 'above' politics (I hope and expect they will decide to expel Musk given last week's statement, but some resistance too) royalsociety.org/about-us/com...

Me, a Black woman, exiting Black History Month and entering Women's History Month*

This week's reads were filled with Lolwe magazine (go check them out for quality African writing!) And all the romance too! Had to plug in Mariah Carey ballads to get through it all 🥹🥰

Somto just let me know this is not necessarily an Igbo tradition but a Southern-Nigerian practice!

Just learned of the fattening rooms like a month ago, so this was an interesting coincidence. Also, the ending of this is so satisfying for SA survivors 😌

Botswana’s government has spent many years, and many millions of dollars, preparing for natural disasters – just not this kind of natural disaster. The state’s attention, informed by decades of meteorological data, was focused instead on responding to drought. Not flooding.

The African Union has deployed Adama Dieng to address instability in Africa, focusing on the worsening crisis in eastern DRC. Dieng has called on President Tshisekedi to engage in direct talks with M23, as pressure mounts following allegations of FARDC involvement in a recent attack in Bukavu.

One of the most eclectic novels to come out of Kenya, “The House of Rust” by Khadija Abdallah Bajaber won this prize a few years ago, inspired me to keep reading their winners. Submit if you’re eligible!

Happy birthday to the talented and globally acclaimed actress, Lupita Nyong’o!

Thank you so much. I’m glad you liked it ❤️❤️❤️

I suck at this sort of thing, but lemme give it a shot 🤞🏾 Stories are so personal to me sometimes I just want to be alone with them, but the writers deserve to find new readers for their lovely work 😁

Palate cleanser.

The conversation’s buzzing around the “powerful” (Le Monde) new novel by “the most prolific Guinean writer” (NY Times) — Tierno Monénembo’s The Lives & Deaths of Véronique Bangoura, translated from the French by Ryan Chamberlain for @schaffnerpress.bsky.social (Mar 4)—seen here in the Brooklyn Rail.

An Englishman just used the word “revert” to mean “respond” in an email to me, my fellow global southies. Counter-colonisation is nigh. 😂

I am honored to have been asked by Strange Horizons for this essay on what is going on in US genre spaces and what can be done about it. I love our spaces more than *anything* - how can we enjoy them while staying silent on or not wanting to hear about exclusion? strangehorizons.com/wordpress/no...

Watched Heretic this weekend and really liked it. The religious debates - Does God exist? Where do we go when we die? etc. - are forever interesting to me. I loved the 2 actresses performances!

Rappel que le 13 Mars sors en francais La mort de l'auteur de @nnedi.bsky.social et que ce jour là je ne suis disponible pour personne.

Books designed to be read only by human eyes are different from books designed to be read by machines, which is why Google will tell you that the phrase “shake my booty” can be found in an 1863 English translation of Don Quixote.
