Have to report this. As a former IT guy... WTAF!?! There's a reason we'd still use tape backups, and rotate them out at Iron Mountain. EVERY tech should know this. Makes me wonder what twitter has been doing. THIS is exactly why you don't hire kids who have no idea what they're doing!
