The exhibition of miniatures at Compton Verney sounded worth a visit (if it hadn't finished on Sunday). This Oliver Cromwell miniature is exquisite, and it apparently, in his request to be painted with all of his imperfections showing, gave rise to the saying 'warts and all'.
