Went with some shoegaze to make dinner to. SONIC, by Glazyhaze It’s rather good. Atmospheric, emotive sounds. I’m not great at listening to lyrics at the best of times, while I’ve no idea what’s being sung I felt carried along in the emotions. #musicskt #shoegaze

Don't watch as much anime these days. I'll check out the occasional series. Often disappointed. Same tropes I saw 30 years ago, just better animation. Frieren: Beyond Journey's End is one of the exceptions. Loaded with fantasy tropes but a beautiful character-driven story. #anime #frieren

Ants From Up There, by Black Country, New Road This is a great piece of post punk/rock. I went back to it to get a better sense of how they’ve changed on the new album. While that has its merits this is the sound I was hoping for. #musicsky #postpunk #postrock

Last week's best 9: the albums I enjoyed listening to the most last week. Albums listed in the alt text. #musicsky

Forever Howlong, by Black Country, New Road Unaware of the lead singer’s departure since their last album I was surprised by a lighter, more whimsical sound than expected. It’s intriguing, mainly pondering how much I like it! I do like it. But I’m not sure it’s something I need much of. #musicsky

His joints don’t like the walking so much these days, but he still loves the beach. Lovely morning in Weston-Super-Mare. #dog #dogsky #beach

Pigsx7 @pigsx7.bsky.social did not disappoint tonight. Fantastic live band. So loud, so intense. #musicsky #metalsky #gignight

It’s gig night. Support weren’t bad. Punk band called Irked. Did all the punk things. A little straight down the line for my taste. #musicsky #punksky #gignight

Death Hilarious, by Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Checking out their new album before I see it live tonight. It's solid Pigsx7. Heavy, aggressive, doomy metal. Maybe just a little same-y at times, but it's a good sound and I'm expecting it to be better live. #musicsky #metalsky #doommetal

Halo on the Inside, by Circuit des Yeux What an odd yet compelling album. Feels like a weird, dark, synthy musical. I’m not into musicals but I liked this. Strangely fascinating. #musicsky #experimental

Liquid, by 35007 Only 22 years late discovering this fine piece of instrumental prog/space rock. Beautiful, relaxing sounds. #musicsky #progrock #spacerock

The Haar, by Black Foxxes A lovely surprise. Beautiful, emotional, sombre indie rock. Never heard them before and now want to hear a lot more. Fantastic album. #musicsky #altrock #indierock

Requiem, by Laudare is an odd thing. Smash together a classical requiem with metal and you get this. It may help that I like classical music but it works. It didn’t connect as well as some of the heavier post-metal I’ve heard lately. Still a good listen. #musicsky #metalsky #blackmetal

niis world, by Niis Quick grungy/punky rock music. Good fun. Nothing too complicated but I liked. Feels liek a band I'd enjoy live. #musicsky #rocksky

My breakfast radio pick today is a funky masterpiece. Cross The Track (We Better Go Back) by Maceo & The Macks I was lined up to pick She Sells Sanctuary by The Cult until this beauty came on. They’re both great but the funk won out #musicsky #radiopick

Also listened to Sub Rosa, by Daever while making dinner. I liked their last album, took me a little while to warm to this one. Grungy doom with excellent vocals. By the end I'm sold. #musicsky #metalsky #grunge #doommetal

Hard Times, Furious Dancing, by Snapped Ankles. Caught them live a couple of weeks back so know what to expect dance-y punky noise. Fully delivers. I did not dance furiously as I was making dinner and had a large chefs knife in my hand. #musicsky

A Dawn To Fear, by Cult of Luna has entertained me while I worked this afternoon. Excellent album. Heavy, sludgy post-metal. A trogon prog element to it too. This one ticks a lot of boxes for me. #musicsky #metalsky #postmetal

Breakfast radio had a time warp theme today. Hard to pick out one in particular with so many nostalgic tracks. I'll go with the first thing I heard The Whole of the Moon, by The Waterboys A perfect time capsule of 80s pop. #musicsky #radiopick

Consolamentum, by YEAR OF NO LIGHT Back on the heavy stuff. An instrumental post-metal album. Sludgy drones throughout. It’s very good. #musicsky #metalsky #postmetal #sludgemetal

Satanic Ecstacy, by Ball Working to this really fun, heavy psych rock album this morning. Satanic occult trappings and hard rock from hell do nothing for me. None of it really matters, the music sounds good and has a great energy. #musicsky #rocksky #psychrock

This morning's radio pick, well isn't a radio pick, it's from a YouTube ad. Enigma's Return to Innocence had me watch a close up of a Hash Brown for a full 30 seconds. Nostalgia again. Been a while since I've heard Enigma but the Cross of Changes was a well worn album back in the 90s. #musicsky

Didn’t make it to an arbitrary nine best albums this week. Picked out 5 I heard and liked. Drop Out III, by Gnod & White Hills Maintenant Jamais, by POPULATION II Drive To Goldenhammer, by Divorce K L P S, by K L P S Teeth To Sky, by Guiltless #musicsky #thisweekspicks

Relaxing Sunday afternoon with some bootleg King Gizzard. This one’s a selection from their 2019 European tour. You rarely go wrong with a bit of King Gizzard. #musicsky #vinylsky #kinggizzard #nowspinning #nowplaying

Maintenant Jamais, by POPULATION II A lovely piece of prog-y psych rock. I think a little more formed than some of their earlier work I’ve listened to. A great listen. #musicsky #psychrock #progrock

Drive to Goldenhammer, by Divorce After last night's live performance I gave the album another listen over lunch. It's a more chilled experience. Live is, well, livelier. Good either way. #musicsky #indierock #country

It’s a beautiful start to the day here in Bristol. It’s balloon weather. View accompanied by the remainder of Drop Out III by Gnod & White Hills. Good soundtrack for taking in the view. #bristol

Tonight’s headline act: Divorce. Really enjoyed their set. Indie rock with a very big country influence. The kind of gig that leaves you feeling uplifted. #musicsky #gignight

It’s another gig night. Always like it when a support act surprises you. Folk is not my music but I really enjoyed Dug. #musicsky #folksky #gignight

This morning's radio pick is One to Another by The Charlatans. 90% of my picks are nostalgic. I wasn't into The Charlatans but this hit is embedded in my brain. And thinking about it I largely prefer the Madchester sound to the Britpop that followed. TOTP video for extra nostalgia. #musicsky

Drop Out III, by Gnod & White Hills Not fully listened to this yet because it is long... Half way through though and it's a beautiful piece of psychedelia. Plenty more to enjoy ahead of me and turns out they'll be playing in Bristol very soon. #musicsky #psychrock

Not a breakfast radio pick. Was convinced I heard Road to Nowhere by Talking Heads this morning, but @bbcradio6musicbot.bsky.social doesn't list it and now I play it, maybe I didn't. So, I may have imagined the whole thing. But it's a great song from a great band #musicsky #postpunk

Moderate Air Quality EP, by The Sick Man Of Europe Really enjoyed them in support for the Snapped Angels last week. Not much music out yet, but this short EP is very good. Post-punk, synth heavy with touches of rock. Lots of potential. #musicsky #postpunk

I I - I - EP, by Blood Abscission Tried out this two track EP ahead of the full album release at the end of the month. There's enough in these two tracks to I'll give the full album a listen. Decent atmospheric black metal. #musicsky #metalsky #blackmetal

Buyer Beware, by The Men A bit of punk this morning. This one grew on me. Early tracks felt a little too simple, but more variety came into play in the second half. Ultimately it's quick and to the point with some exciting moments scattered in its second half. #musicsky #punkrock #garagerock

Teeth To Sky, by Guiltless This was exactly what I needed to follow homework with the eldest. Heavy, noisy, sludgy doom. Very good. #musicsky #metalsky #doommetal #sludgemetal
