The thing about the birth rate is that there are over eight billion people in the world. That’s actually too many humans. We have a resource crisis. Every single one of the birth rate worriers is talking about a race war. That is the entire thing. They are worried about dominance in a race war.

People try and act like racism doesn't exist in Canada when there's questions like this in the federal leadership debate

“…outdoor and environmental educators need to remain ever vigilant of the political ramifications of the knowledges of ‘nature’ which inform their pedagogies.” 🙌🏽 #academicsky #higherEd #environmentaljustice #socialecology

It’s possible to applaud Booker’s filibuster and to encourage more of this without ignoring valid criticisms of him. It might be the bare minimum all congresspeople & senators should be doing, but we still need more of it. Our every response need not be only either a love letter or condemnation.

Highlight of working late to get some documents finished tonight: my partner exclaiming “kitty’s helping!” every time my cat came to wander all over my desk for attention #academicsky

I was honored to have contributed an essay to this book. Just came in the mail today. The series of essays explore the many ways indigenous people in America refuse to disappear.

Butler: "I think we have to be mindful of the importance of translation. Working w/ my translators I saw that the theoretical work in queer or feminist or trans theory has to be multilingual&depends on translation; translation is the condition of possibility of the future of the field."

Ed Zitron on the recent estimated 14% cut in planned data center capacity due to waning demand for gen AI. This is big news. #ai #ChatGPT #GenAI #openai #microsoft #academicchatter Power Cut https://www.wheresyoured.at/power-cut/

Important reminder:

FUN SPACE FACT: the moon is gay

Me to the queer art collective group chat: “I love being in a life phase where I’m like 🥵 for some theory books” #academicsky

We simply do not have to sacrifice the rights of trans people to save rights elsewhere and anybody that tells you otherwise is a fascist

If you do mutual aid work in your community, attending a #TeslaTakeDown picket is a great place to recruit volunteers and let people know about your work. Bring some fliers, talk to people, and invite them to join you in your work.

Me: I should take up some kind of regularly scheduled personal essay writing practice Also me: needs to finish a personal-style essay on less seen aspects of my creative practice for an actual publication 👀 thanks brain… #academicsky

The Visibility Brigade has a toolkit out and is inviting more people to do overpass protests: docs.google.com/document/d/1...

I think if you're going to condemn particular protest tactics you have to explain how the public is supposed to deal with the president selling their government to a billionaire and Congress not caring. Deprived of institutional checks and balances people will invent their own

Oh we can make it a thing… One day late for #Strataday Some ceramicists out for a geology-of-clay day last month in some Pliocene fluvial deposits at Red Bluff MS

seeing a lot of too-cool-for-it takes pointing out that the US has backed awful dictators before. it's certainly true that this country has blood on its hands, but this is another example of pundits treating trump like a literary foil instead of an actual president who is doing bad things.

REMEMBER KIDS when flooding a snitch form, DON’T use obvious troll responses that can be filtered out with a query Use PLAUSIBLE FAKE data that will take TIME and EFFORT to run down. This poisons the entire data pool and makes it useless

ANYWAY, did you know there's an extension you can put on Chrome that will connect with your local library system and when you go look at a book, say on AMZ, it will tell you if that book exists in the library system and if it's available? It's literally called Library Extension.

Reposting with alt text because I laughed really loudly at this

Alt Text: "Terfs need to shut up about womanhood, my mom was raised to believe all women were less valuable than men and cried when she learned about trans women because the idea that someone would fight that hard to be a woman was radical for her and meant it was something worth being"

The atmosphere on a hotter planet can hold more water. Each 1°C increase in surface temperature increases the capacity to hold water vapor by about 7%. 1.5°C anomaly ≈ 11% more water vapor. This graph shows the 12-month running average for the "total column precipitable water." You can see it!

"There was a protest at a gas conference, and the next day, the South Australian Parliament changed the law. The next day they criminalised protest. "If protest was ineffective, why would they do that?" - Executive Director @richarddenniss.bsky.social at our #ClimateIntegrity Summit 2025 #auspol

"The tactics used by Canadian extractive industries follow a familiar pattern both at home and abroad: divide communities, bypass proper consent processes, and when faced with resistance, rely on state police forces to criminalize and remove land defenders." Great piece by Brandi Morin!

On the way home from CDMX. The art (although I wish I saw more) was incredibly revitalizing. Experimental materially and conceptually — and in that sense, just f*cking fearless. Color everywhere. Unrestrained. Every material imaginable. I got those art chills again, finally.

A thing I should do. Reposting for future reference.
