The Saunders-Roe SR.45 Princess was the largest all-metal flying boat to ever have been built. In the 1950s, the U.S. Navy considered buying the three existing aircraft and converting them to nuclear power but the plan was abandoned. #FunFactFriday

Feb 21, 1950 The US Atomic Energy Commission announced yesterday that it would soon build a reactor which could lead to the development of atomic engines for planes. * The Convair NB-36H was an experimental aircraft that carried a nuclear reactor. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Convair...

When Nancy Bellantoni and I began work on "The Battalion Artist," we sorted through all the papers, photos, and memorabilia her father brought back from WWII in the South Pacific. We still don't know why he had this hand drawn map of the tunnel system on Iwo Jima. www.hoover.org/events/batta...

"I agree with trying to root out fraud, waste and inefficiency and redundancy in government but it must be done lawfully. It's the rule of law not the law of the ruler that must prevail."

1945 #WWII The United States accepted weak promises from a dictator on behalf of an ally, Poland, that had fought from the first day of World War Two to the last, on all European fronts, without surrender or national collaboration. By extension, the United States was throwing up its hands.

Denmark MP Rasmus Jarlov: "[US] has taken no casualties in Ukraine ... paid 4% of US defence budget for one year and that was too much for them ... they will surrender to Russia. We can not trust such spineless people ... If Russia invaded Poland tomorrow, they would make excuses and do nothing."
