Metz station looking particularly handsome this morning.

@pierrenovellie.bsky.social just have to say—as I listen to your archive over lunch—thank you sooo much for being publicly you. Laughed properly out loud to your riff on being Tony Robbins’ son ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Last day to respond to the Government’s AI consultation - this is a big one, and directly affects whether artists will be paid. Responses by midnight, and @writersguildgb.bsky.social have a brilliant guide available to help.

Oh yes, Homer’s famous “Tes Thdpssssps.” 👍🏻

Ukrainian fundraiser at the Scottish Storytelling Center tonight was pretty harrowing and educational, in turns. First a documentary about war medics on the frontline, then various musical performances and readings, and an extract of Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors (1965).

. A Black spy saved George Washington’s life, helped win the Revolutionary War, and still had to buy his freedom. If America really loved Black history, James Armistead Lafayette would have his own blockbuster spy movie by now. Instead, we get another reboot of Batman. #BlackHISTORY

Couple of Paris days. Saw some art, went to the nightclub library (Beaubourg), caught up with friends, and talked about LLMs in French. All in all a good fin de semaine.

There is still beauty in this world

BREAKING: David Hogg, a survivor of the Stoneman Douglas High School shooting just been elected Vice Chair of the DNC. CONGRATS!

Stunning old town in Metz last night, where conviviality reigns at two degrees centigrade.

@pierrenovellie.bsky.social I’ve just discovered BudPod and am delighted you recorded so many! Also heard your most recent plea and pre-ordered your paperback sans hésitation. PS an unreasonable annoyance of mine is reading or hearing the name Megan Thee Stallion.

Such a nice view upon leaving work

Postdocs become increasingly important for one’s rest of academic career. 40% of postdocs leave, those who stay in academia more likely to have relocated, have a highly cited paper, and changed their research direction (but not extremely) from their doctoral phase www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/...

There was a gorgeous palette over Metz this evening. Loving this place.

maybe my favourite etymology: the phrase “curry favour” originates from a medieval french morality poem about a conniving horse named fauvel who amasses a following of sycophantic humans to groom and tend to him. over time, “currying fauvel” eventually became “currying favour.”

Closer to Truth just released this fun short video I made with them on mathematical cognition I did 2 yrs ago m.youtube.com/watch?v=NMuf...

i feel this beautiful lullaby sung by Mary for her son, where she uncompromisingly sees and discusses his future suffering, gets very close to the meaning of Christmas. A somber song and a mesmerizing deceptively simple continuo line m.youtube.com/watch?v=oC7M...

I learn that the regional word for a door handle is not ‘poignée’, but ‘clenche’, which must pertain to such verbs as ‘enclencher’ or ’déclencher’(?)
