I also have a Hamlet joke, which goes like this--no wait, maybe I shouldn't tell it. No, I totally should, here it is: Though, thinking about it, maybe it's really not very appropriate for Bluesky. No, okay, it's perfect for Bluesky. Right, so--no, I really can't tell this one. Although...

I have a Titus Andronicus joke, but I've got to confess it was fed to me.

now *this* is the anecdote of the day

I think my favorite part is how a cargo ship takes at least 10 days to cross the Atlantic and at least 15 days to cross the Pacific, so if your cargo ship left somewhere on April 1 headed for the U.S. then you've gone through multiple wildly different tariff regimes while still at sea.

"Why isn't the Left also agitating for increasing birth rates?" Idk, probably because it's a non-issue, and we're not exactly short on actual shit to worry about.

Coolest thing I've seen at Salute today: this minis version of the classic early-80s Atari arcade game Battlezone. Not the digital-to-tabletop adaptation I'd expected to find, but wow.

They're absolutely going after law-abiding immigrants/visitors because they're easy quotas to fill. Add to students and immigrants who are keeping their appointments the people they're fucking over at entry points like airports and border checkpoints.

The person in charge of education, folks.

What's frightening is that incompetence can wreak all kinds of havoc and harm even when there are procedures intended to keep it in check, and the current administration and its idiot laughing boys are going out of their way to circumvent and sideline all of those procedures.

The larger optics of this are that D&D is now functionally bereft of its most senior staff. Combined with the extensive layoffs of their most experienced staff over the last few years, the movement to term contract employees, and the recent cancellation of their VTT, D&D is in the weakest...1/2

The image on the right is clearly and obviously a celebration of National Farm Animals Day in Dunwich, MA. Cthulhu fhtagn.

deleted the post about the attorney who rec'd a deportation notice because the onslaught of "it wasn't intended for her!" was gonna be too irritating. if you really think "oh, this was sent in error" is a safeguard against being deported and imprisoned by fascists, well, bless your heart.

Honestly I just hate how angry I am these days. It's totally justifiable--these people are fucking monsters (and I'm certainly not policing anyone else's anger). But I hate it, I hate that feeling. I've spent so much of my life trying to get rid of anger. It's awful to be living with it again.

I find it a little terrifying, tbh, given that they're removing people to other countries without due process, showing open disdain for judges, and are pretty much claiming they can't bring anyone back even if they were removed by mistake--which is either a contemptuous lie or horrific if true.

I was today years old when I learned:

i love shit like this because like. clearly this is an attempt at creating social pressure to tolerate conservative views. but that's just this in reverse! you just would rather all those other people be uncomfortable instead of you. how is that not transparently obvious? how does this get published

They're called hummingbirds because they don't know the words to any of the bird songs.

For the nonlawyers: If you are "disagree[ing] fundamentally on the status of the Court's order" with the judge who is that Court, you have adopted an untenable position.

While I get that this may not mean much to non-lawyers, I cannot overstate how much judges hate working on weekends and how much is involved with holding a weekend hearing (even for a video hearing, it means having a clerk working). This is serious FAAFO territory unless the judge blinks.

I've no idea where this is actually going because government lawyers tend to have teflon, but this is the kind of thing judges say to attorneys who are about to be sanctioned. I would've been sweating at this point if I hadn't already started.

It's easy to understand why Ford pardoned Nixon and why Obama didn't act on the GW Bush administration violating the Convention Against Torture and its Federal enabling legislation. But this is a half century that we've cultivated the practice of Presidents being above the law and it needs to end.

A post-Trump Truth and Reconciliation Commission ain't gonna be enough to rectify the injustices of these four years. I want criminal prosecutions.

Jerry Ford is, of course, widely remembered for falling down a lot, for the "Ford to City: Drop Dead" headline, and for replacing Nixon when Nixon was still a contender for Worst President Ever. And the whole time, he could have been famous for being a connoisseur of Le Porno Français.

It may be as simple as Trump being an ignorant, shallow, impulsive, vibes-based man who can't foresee the easily-foreseen consequences of his actions, leading him to attempt things like mass deportations or imposing insane tariffs before realizing he's slit his own throat and has to backpedal.

A good breakdown of what's going on in gaming right now (h/t @kierongillen.bsky.social's newsletter, thank you).
