🎉Just clicked on this program to see if it was up and it turns out our new paper "Interviews" got into the NBER Summer Institute in both the Labor and Personnel Econ programs! What a wonderful surprise!!

Super excited to be participating in the NBER Economics of Culture and Institutions conference this Saturday! Thank you so much to Alberto Bisin and Paola Giuliano for having me there -- looks like a fantastic program! www.nber.org/conferences/...

This is one of the best papers on discrimination in recent years. Read it, read it again. More and more evidence that introducing subjectivity at almost any stage increases discrimination.

📣 New paper drop! Why do some employees take up training and others don’t, even when the programs are the same? Surprisingly, the answer isn’t HR policy—it’s middle managers. 🧵

Heading back to DC after a fantastic NBER ORG organized by @raffasadun.bsky.social and @andreaprat.bsky.social—great talks in theory & empirical org econ. Highlight: texting my wife, sister, and parents when a speaker cited my work :) www.nber.org/conferences/...

Unbothered. In her lane. Thriving.

Wrapped up day 1 of the NBER ORG meetings and caught my paper getting a shout-out. Great dinner and conversation to finish off a pretty great day overall :)

Looking forward to the next @nber.org Organizational Economics Working Group meeting on April 10/11, coorganized with @andreaprat.bsky.social. We have a great line-up of new research papers in Org Econ! Program and livestream link: www.nber.org/conferences/...

Excited for the NBER ORG meeting this week! Thanks Raffaella Sadun & Andrea Prat for leading this forward-thinking group exploring fascinating topics, including AI and labor markets. Enjoyed discussing Anna’s paper on class gaps last fall—delighted to return!

Parents streaming my NBER talk on YouTube from 8,000 miles away. Pretty sure they’re now telling everyone—including relatives I haven’t seen since 2005—that I invented economics.

Honored to have my research highlighted by the great Steven Pinker! When I started this work, I had no idea where it would lead. This is such a cool moment—I’ll cherish it for a very very long time.

Great experience presenting my paper today at the NBER Race and Stratification Working Group! Thank you so much to @trevondlogan.bsky.social, Ellora Derenoncourt, Vicki Bogan, and Dania V. Francis for having me on the program.

Just received the great news that I'll be presenting my paper at the NBER Race and Stratification Working Group this Spring! www.nber.org/programs-pro...

Afternoon well spent at MIT Sloan - caught the organizational economics seminar before diving into research. The mission statement on that wall is pretty cool!

Fascinating talk yesterday @MIT Org Econ by Andrea Prat on using ML tools to analyze organizational narratives. Really insightful approaches to extracting meaning from employee reviews!

"Fit" and "culture" interviews introduce discrimination. They lead to the hiring of worse-performing people from "elite" backgrounds. Instead use structured behavioral interviews to reduce bias. Want a more diverse, better performing workforce? Dump your fit and culture interviews.
